You know you're a great fighter when you make another great fighter look bad. Holmes really was one of the greatest, it's baffling that it took so long for him to get any credit.
Guys like Jones Jnr, Toney, Mosely, Berto and Pederson have been caught. Tyson was never part of any drug scandal. Holyfield had the Evan Fields sitution to answer for. Holyfields body changed alot. Tysons physique stayed in more or less the same shape of his career, from Botha onwards, he was just fat. The one fight you can accuse Tyson of steroids is possibly the second Holy fight. Holyfield himself has stated the one guy who worked out harder than him in the gym was Tyson Youve got your head up your own arse if you think Tyson was taking stuff. He would have admitted to it by now.
Some people work hard in the gym and it also has a lot to do with genetics as well. What part of that dont you understand? Tyson had a 20+ year career, he never came close to any drug scandals.
It's a sign of the times when young fans consider muscle size and definition to be proof of steroid use. As if no one ever had muscles before steroids made it to the scene. Pretty sad.
Maybe physically, but I thought Holmes showed a lot more juice against McCall than he did against Holyfield. Against McCall, Holmes threw a lot of power punches and actually showed a strong jab; against Holyfield, Holmes looked lame. No snap, no energy! Granted, the opponent makes a difference, and I'm sure it's easier to look good against McCall than it would against Holyfield, but still, Holmes just looked livelier. But appearance wise, Holmes never looked that great. And I always felt that Holmes never pushed himself all that hard during his comeback, which is strange, considering he was fighting against advancing age. Had Holmes kept himself in the kind of shape that a Bernard Hopkins did at a similar age, I think Holmes could have achieved more.
If Holmes was injured or hurt in any way, he should have postponed the fight. It wasn't like he needed the payday. But man, he was sluggish as heck against Evander. I don't recall HOlmes even throwing much of a jab at all, and in the center of the ring, he was being easily outboxed by Evander. All that laying on the ropes stuff was hardly world-class boxing skill. But Holmes did go the full 12 rounds without suffering much punishment, so I guess it worked!
I know all about steroids an weightlifting, been doing it since I was 12. Ive been on cycle before. An tyson was not natural I assure you. Yeah he had good genetics. He also stepped out of prison flat an weighing like 190. There is a certain look you get when you're on and tyson had it after jail. In his earlier reign he was big but held a lot of water an wasn't near as lean. He was a shredded 5ft10 220 after jail.
He threw enough jabs to earn Evander's respect. After their fight, Evander stated that Larry had a very hard jab and that it bothered him.
