I once had a very lengthy conversation with Muhammad Ali. I sat directly behind him in The old Stanley theater in Philadelphia, for the movie airing of the Marciano - Ali computer fight (USA version). He kept up a running dialog with me throughout the "fight." He then spoke with me more in the lobby after the show. If he had something against white people, I sure saw no signs of it that day. He was friendly, respectful, shook my hand sincerely, and looked me in the eyes while doing so. I liked the man!

We are all guilty of favoring fighters from our prospective eras. But Larry Holmes would have jabbed both Tunney and Dempsey to death in the same night.

Any proof this quote from Tunney actually happened ? I never heard of it or saw it anywhere ...

Good points-except it is dubious that either of them would have KOed any great HWs in one.
And Lewis will not turn 90 in the 2040's.

Wow, that's a damn good story. I would have felt utterly in awe, and privileged.

I pity to think what Dempsey would do to Norton’s Chin. It would be quick and savage.

Norton would beat Dempsey. Same as he best Quarry.

Norton was a slow starter and would get savagely KOed by Dempsey.

He may have been a slow starter but I think that Norton was just too good to have been overwhelmed by a smaller fighter. I agree if Dempsey catches Norton with a big punch he hurts him but I think Norton survives.

Being that it's possible there hasn't been a heavyweight to match him since his reign, this seems a bit more conceivable than Dempsey knocking out Norton and him.
