In another thread, there were discussions surrounding Larry Holmes's early career. There seems to be a general census that Holmes won every round against Shavers barring the KD round. So I'm rewatching the fights, and does anyone else think that Shavers probably won round two of the first match? Holmes does well to keep his distance and landing his jab every now and then. But Shavers hits him with some jarring shots that rock Holmes, and look to almost put him down. Holmes lands one good right towards the end of the round, but a Shavers follows with another rock hard punch. Would you guys give a round like this to Holmes, who was a bit more active with the jab? Or for Shavers, who threw and landed less, but who rocked Holmes and put in in danger. If you haven't seen the round in a while, I recommend watching it right now!
Howard Cosell always had his favorites, and this affected his announcing. I also think Earnie won a couple rounds in the 2nd fight, too.
Holmes did NOT win that round. He was also hit with good jabs himself. Shavers is also lucky Holmes didn't land sooner in round one with the ones he landed before the bell rang BC Shavers was rattled.
