Lewis got up as quick as Holmes, Quicker than Holyfield, Douglas and Whyte in these clips but wasnt given the chance they gave other fighters. That being said maybe it should have been stopped but the ref was premature to wave it off at the count of 7 so we will never know.

Lewis staggered on unsteady feet, you can`t let it continue, Larry`s legs were fine, no comparison.

ah but the ref s count was only at 7, if he had been down at 7 the ref would not stop the count, look at mills lane still counting for berbick as he keeps falling down. We just dont know if he would of been steady if given the same time as Holyfield got from Cortez, in fact Cortez seems to always give long counts and extra time.

His legs were gone, no point in giving him a standing 10 count, he was on his feet and in no positition to defend himself, if he was on the floor the ref wouldn`t have been able to tell if he was unsteady, what is the point to this he got beat fair and square then boxed McCall`s head off in a rematch, therre`s a good chance he would have done the same to Shavers who like McCall was just a limited slugger.

The difference was that Lewis's legs were like spaghetti and he couldn't hold himself upright W/out assistance. Some fighters have weak recuperative powers. Lewis was one.

I would have let it go on being a title fight and all.

    I can understand that.

But, I think the ref did Lewis a favor. I think Lewis would have been defenseless and a scenario like Curry/McCrory may have ensued with McCall winding up a free shot. I know it's conjecture but Lewis was clearly on ***** street.

It's speculation either way really. Maybe he could have lent into him and tied him up. Lewis is a big man. I've seen Tommy Hearns on similar legs tangle them up and survive.

Especially being a heavyweight title fight.

Its more than likely McCall would have finished the job but Lennox deserved the chance to try and hold on in my opinion. I have seen many fighters come back from that kind of knock down and it's not like Oliver was a finisher on the level of say a Tyson or a Foreman.

    Cheers.

I think Lewis could have continued...he certainly was not given a chance to shake the cobwebs loose like Holmes.

Being the heavyweight title is a good point too.

Too many Lenni nut huggers in this thread. Others got up like a boss and were fully coherent, on steady legs, were responding to referee and ready to continue. Lewis in comparison was dizzy, shaky legs, was leaning on the referee, not responding to the referee when the referee was talking to him, clear tko. Even Tyson fury got up like a boss from a similar hard powered shot from Cunnigham.

Here's a good example too of what a sloppy finisher Shavers often was. Those initial attempts to finish Holmes are all over the place to say the least even if a bit tired. At this point a puncher like Shavers didn't need to swing from the rafters.

10 of your past 12 posts in Classic have been hating on Lewis in multiple threads. Your other two were 1 x admiring Bowe and 1 x thread asking why Tyson bit Holyfield but throwing out any chance it could have been the easy way out.

UFC2015 disappeared some time ago and used to post this same stuff even using the same pet name ;)

As a champion I think Lennox deserved the benefit of the doubt. It's anyone's guess how he would have fared, but it certainly wasn't cut and dry that he was finished at that point. Personally I think he was about as hurt as Holmes, but unlike Holmes he wasn't able to hide it as well, which gave the ref the justification to stop the fight.
