How many people here think Holmes would defeat Bowe, I have never been a fan of Bowe but you have to give him credit in his short prime he was great but I could never see him getting the best of Holmes, that jab would give him nightmares for years to come what do people here think.

Definitely. A near prime Bowe had problems with an over the hill Tony Tubbs' movement. Just imagine what would happen against a prime Holmes !

A near prime Bowe? I dont know, Bowe didnt have too many problems with Tubbs in my opinion. Tubbs was also no slouch. I think this fight would be very tough for Larry and I think it could be very interesting if Bowe got close.
Its really strange the comments on this forum about Bowe. He didnt have a very long run, but he was a hell of a fighter, could have been one of the best ever with his skills. He had more facets to his game than any version of Holmes.

Who was the best jab and mover did Bowe beat? Tubbs? That was close, Holyfield when he boxed out moved Bowe and Golota out boxed him.

I can't see any other scenario than Holmes outboxing him to a decision. Bowe can fight in the pocket with the best, but not with an elite mover

Look at all the fighters with similar styles to Bowe's who faced Holmes. They fought him dead close. Bowe was certainly better than Tim Witherspoon for example. Bowe wasnt easily out moved my Holyfield thats a stretch. I think Bowe fought a lot less aggressive and was quite a bit heavier. Bowe at his best would be setting a pretty fast pace for Larry and I think Bowe beats him in the close range. I cant see Larry stranding the 6'4 Bowe on the end of his jab.

By the time Bowe had beaten Evander Holyfield he was pretty much the finished product and beat the hell of a prime Holyfield. He did start to decline rather quickly after that. Regardless if you discount his poor discipline and dedication after winning the title he was still a serious force at his peak. Noone did to Holyfield what Bowe did to him and Holy was at his best in both fights.

I think Holmes was past his best against Witherspoon but I suppose Norton pushed him

As for Bowe being 6'4, well ok but Holmes was 6'3 himself so I don't see that being an issue in outjabbing him

You're right though Bowe in his best shape may push Holmes, I can't see him winning though

Oh, absolutely. Even at or near his best Bowe let his jab be disrupted when anybody could throw a quality jab back at him, (see Holyfield II for example) and I've said for ages that Bowe's wide, over the top punching motion could be picked to pieces by anyone who throws crisp, straight punches, especially if they do it with any speed.

Holmes would make Bowe look foolish and win a comfortable points decision. Bowe's only real chance would be bulling Holmes and hoping to inflict a ton fo damage very quickly, but given the heart of Holmes and his ability to come back from massive damage, I doubt Bowe has what it takes to KO Holmes.

Nobody humiliates a prime Bowe. Close fight. Bowe by
late stoppage or Holmes or Bowe win a split decision.

The Bowe who beat Holyfield the first time, would be a handful for anyone. But Holmes has all the tools to out jab and out box Bowe.

Bowe offensively was fantastic but he was hardly the finished article. He was easy to hit, he lacked mobility and his jab was over rated. I see Holmes winning a clear decision in a competitive bout.

Holmes at his best versus Bowe at his best?

Holmes...fully prepped...clearly on points or late TKO...too experienced, too savvy, too crafty, braver, great chin, spiteful power, knew too many wrinkles, mentally tougher.

This would be one of those fights imo that afterward, you'd wonder how it could have been considered a pick-em by some.

I can't PROVE any of the above of course, it's just my view...I would lump big-time on Holmes in this one.
