heard this via Dan Rafael's ESPN blog .. rumored for December in Montreal.

nice to see both fighters back in the title hunt, if the fight happens it would be an IBF eliminator

I can't help but think what a shitty situation it must be for Ngoudjo.

who's been on the shelf with a broken jaw since his January loss to Urango for the vacant IBF belt.

I figure this fight will be a tough test for both, but what's in it for Herman Ngoudjo?

as he already got wiped out by Urango once, and provided he gets by Holt I don't see much changing in a rematch vs Juan Urango.

    only a rumor, but discuss.

    Would be a good fight.Interesting style match-up.

I think I'd lean a little for Holt but if it's close in Montreal it's very possible it will go for thre african.

yeah I tend to favor Ngoudjo. I think he'll come to be a revolving door for the IBF

he's already fought and lost 2 times for the IBF belt.

    Yeah,that's peculiar.

Still not close to the Ruiz-WBA relationship.

Holt by UD or SD.....Ngoudjo is terribly inconsistent....Holt should outpoint him.....however, if the herman that fought castillo and paulie shows up I expect a close fight.....I hope holt wins....because I don't want to see Urango-Ngoudjo 2

or maybe Herman has an obsession with the IBF eh?

I've always had a problem with saying "if the version that fought ___" as if these fighters have different performance levels or versions of themselves

did you ever stop and consider that maybe it has something to do with the opponent that fighter is up against

take the example Jeff used with Herman's fights vs Castillo, Paulie, and Urango ..I've seen all three.

but anyway Ngoudjo had much better performances vs the first 2 then the last ... one big reason being, the power of Castillo + Paulie doesn't really compare to the power of Urango.

when Castillo + Paulie hit Herman, it didn't really discourage him for the most part, and he continued to press the action

but when he got hit vs Urango .. he wound up holding for most of the fight, and had a broken jaw post fight.

I mean not to rag on you too much Jeff but take Paulie's own fight with Ngoudjo compared to his ones with Edner Cherry and the first fight with Lovemore.

why couldn't the same "version" of Paulie show up for the Ngoudjo fight that easily outboxed Cherry and N'Dou? it's easier said then done, when your opponent is outsized and all together over matched (like Cherry was in coming up in weight from 135 or Lovemore just being slow footed)

I mean did Herman do better because he fought a different "version" of Paulie?

so question back to you Jeff was it really different "versions" of Herman Ngoudjo or Malignaggi in the above examples when they under performed

or did it have more to do with the quality of opponent

as both men (Paulie + Herman) looked better when fighting one level of opponent Ngoudjo: Castillo and Paulie
    Malignaggi: Herman, Cherry and Lovemore)

yet totally different vs another level (fights with Urango + Ngoudjo)

and if this whole "different version" of a fighter exists .. can we find the version of JT that doesn't gas, and sub him in for the Super 6?

Well i agree with your overall premise that styles makes fights.....however, about paulie he has said in interviews, which i believe that you can see him sliding with mcgirt as his trainer trying to teach him a different style....to me the old paulie is back, juan diaz imo is better then ndou, and probably ngoudjo, as far as skills....and paulie imo looked much better in the controversial loss to diaz then he did in his 3 wins over ndou(twice) and his controversial one to ngoudjo.....except the first ndou fight is paulie's best performance

Now about ngoudjo.....the best of ngoudjo i have seen was the castillo fight, IMO he should have gotten the nod....he was inconsistent against paulie, 1st half of the fight paulie outboxed him and was pitching a shutout, and then ngoudjo decided to walk paulie down and started timing him, and won most of the rounds in the second half.....I had it 7-5 malignaggi, one can make a case for a draw as well......ngoudjo was always inconsistent against randall bailey, it was an off night for herman in that, and IMO got a gift against bailey......herman is incosistent throughtout portions of his matches, where he looks world class and times where looks B level......that's why I say he is terribly inconsistent, but i do see the points your trying to make....

and the urango fight for herman, he was just overpowered nothing he could do really....and he had periods in that fight where he looked like he was coming on, and periods where he looked like he was about to get stopped....

I'm picking holt by points, he is just the better more rounded boxer at this point....

ah "styles make fights" while certainly truth .. I never gave you this one argument before .. but I don't really see styles making fights as being too profound

as all its really saying is "different fighters fight in a different way, and whoever fights more effective through the course of the fight usually wins"

i mean no kidding, anyone could have told you that different fighters fight differently .. not so profound.

as for Ngoudjo agreed on vs Castillo, certainly his most consistent. I know your a Paulie fan but if you think he was pitching a SHUTOUT after 6 rounds .. you have got to be kidding me ... Paulie easily won the first 3 I'll give you that, but I think a strong case can be made for Herman winning the 4th and 6th. but in the long run it was Herman's inconsistency that cost him the fight ... he didn't win enough rounds point blank .. we can both agree on that.

I had the fight closer then i did initially when watching it again, but Herman didn't do enough to win

that is why he's unable to get over the hump .. I've always seen Herman as B level. eeks by Bailey, and too inconsistent to get the W over Paulie. as for Urango, yeah he was just out fought, and couldn't overcome Juan and win rounds. he was getting hunted down and tagged a majority of the fight, and the scorecards reflected.

    Holt is more well rounded

but they are in Canada so who knows if judging will be fair.

if this is a close fight on the cards wouldn't shock me at all if Herman came out the winner.

You don't get a broken jaw after a fight. Urango broke Ngoudjo's jaw in the third round, which explains why he held for most of the fight. Would the result have been different without the injury? I don't think so because Urango was the man in the ring even before. But Ngoudjo's courage that night was incredible. That may explain why the IBF gives him another chance.

He had ha second chance because Malignaggi was given a decision in Las Vegas by three Nevada judges. When a controversy occurs (like Bute-Andrade) the IBF manages to settle that way.

okay your getting me on a technicality. obviously Herman got his jaw broken during the fight

im saying he got hit a lot DURING the fight, and by post fight a result of all the getting hit was a broken jaw. filling in the blanks here.

it wasn't known at the time it happened that Herman broke his jaw ... but that came out post fight, which is why I say so.

Herman showed a lot of heart in getting out of the round, and finishing the fight on his feet.

Urango did dominate him and the scorecards reflected on it.

but going into the title fight, he did have a close one vs Malignaggi and was therefore still ranked high by the IBF

coming off a one sided loss to Urango I don't see the sense in giving Herman a THIRD IBF eliminator right away.

how many times is the IBF going to recycle Herman into eliminators/title fights

IMO, Ngoudjo doesn't deserve to have a match to be the mandatory defense of the IBF strap at 140. Even more, he won't be able to beat the champ, even at his second try. He should climb back the ladder before being given a championship opportunity.

Ngoudjo is a very good fighter who deserves to be fighting for belts. I thought he beat Paulie. He and Holt would be a very competitive matchup, a fight Id like to see.
