He was overrated by many but properly rated as well

Personally I underrated Vics ability and progression.

I was wrong. I picked Mijares by schooling. I had no idea how much Vic progressed since his defeat to Donaire

You know what, he definitely has progressed.

BUT! I think Vic's style, KO power and the fact Mijares was obviously overconfident and not prepared for Vic's speed at all, are the things that really shifted the fight towards Vic.

Not trying to take anything away from Darchinyan, but you have to consider all the mistakes Mijares made too.

Mijares came in with the worst gameplan imaginable. He literally did everything wrong.

Vic did what he had to do..but this was a mental **** by Mijares. He lost this fight a lot more than Vic won it even though Vic is quite the deserving winner.

The diference is that Darchinyan is not wary of Mijares power. Compare that to the Donaire fight when he almost got KOed in the 2nd round which made Darchi tentative and thus made Darchi very predictable.

I couldn't agree more. Why this guy was ranked in the top 10 P4P I have no idea. His skills and counter-punching were average at best. I said all along that Donaire would beat the **** outta him, I think after tonight most would agree.

to be fair, he did dominate some good fighters like arce, navarro, and munoz. that's not really "average" to do that to solid fighters. but it looks like he wasnt great like many thought. real good, not great.

Nice to see people have realised (mind the pun m8) that Vic has grown as a fighter since his loss to donaire. I said a few days ago in another thread that he uses his jab much more effectively since then and he also doesnt rush in as often or as careless as he used to. The problem was not that Mijares was overrated, he is a very good fighter, Vic just had his number. Also beeing a tough son of a ***** doesnt hurt. I've met Vic a few times and he just loves to fight. Tough scrappers are always dangerous. Especially ones like Vic that can hit like a freight train. No fighter in the world is unbeatable. There are too many intangibles on the table.

I have no doubt that Christian will take this loss, just like he did with the others, learn from it and bounce back better then before. He will be a champ again. People just need to stop hyping fighters sooo much that when they eventualy suffer a loss, they get dropped like a bad habbit. This is boxing. Fighters should not be expected to win every fight. Losses, I believe, actually help a fighter more than a win 10-14% of the time (any more than that and you should find another carreer).

Congrats to Vic. Gonna be one helluva party!! :happy :happy :happy

Lets see a rematch with Donaire now or a true unification with
Montiel. Both will be good fights and Im sure Vic will do his best to make them happen.
