Turns out that Juan Manuel Marquez and Juan Diaz will fight for the vacant WBA “super” lightweight championship as well as the vacant WBO lightweight belt in their highly anticipated showdown on February 28th at TOYOTA Center in Houston, Texas. “The more championship belts for me, the better,” said Marquez. “I want to unify the lightweight division and I’m excited to have the opportunity to add two more titles to my collection on February 28th.” The WBA and WBO titles were rendered vacant when Nate Campbell failed to make weight for his February 14th title defense against Ali Funeka. The camp of WBA regular champion Paulus Moses unsuccessfully claimed they should be the sole WBA lightweight champion, arguing “There is no possibility to promote a WBA world title where Paulus Moses would not been involved.” Marquez-Diaz is believed to be the first-ever fight for a “vacant” WBA super title.

WTF is all this about!! How the hell can a 'super title' be vacant? I thought you only won it if you unified.

The WBA is making up the rules as they go in order to make as much money as they possibly can. More titles out there means more money to be made.

so Moses holds the regular title, has been paying his sanctioning fees and then the wba allow two other fighters to fight for the super title?

he could probably take legal action couldn't he?

Before anyone asks: yes, it happened before, Tarver and Griffin fought for two vacant belts after Roy moved up to beat Ruiz.

Pretty damn good job by GBP. It wasn't cheap I guess...

loooooooool the WBA dropped to a new low today. Usually if the super champion vacates then the regular champion becomes the only champion until he can unify the titles himself.

But there was no super champion.Campbell was the regular champ and Moses the interim champ.Campbell vacated and Moses became full champ.
    Still doesn't explain this BS.
