Holy Marquez! WBA sanctions Diaz/Marquez Fight!

What happened when WBA tried to give back the belt to Campbell?Was he to be super champion then??

Nate vacated the WBA because they were going to enforce a mandatory like you said earlier against Paulus Moses. Not in the case of Nate being the regular champion though, and Moses being the interim, they just seemed to want Moses to fight Campbell and sort of unify the WBA belt.

However, he obviously had the IBF mandatory with Funeka, and was looking at the winner of this fight after then. Therefore he didn't have time to fight Moses in between his schedule and choose to vacate instead.

 

There is also the deal that the WBA does not HAVE to make a unified champ super champion. I think in Campbell case that's what happened. He was unified but never given super champ status. Therefore he lost his WBA regular title when he failed to fight the mandatory on time. WBA belt was vacated and the 2 contenders fought for the vacant title.

 

yes but he did not make weight. That screwed it all up.

 

about 3 days before the fight the WBA decided in their wisdom to offer the belt back to Campbell if he paid the sanctioning fee for it. he did not make weight so it was all moot after that.

 

Must of been that way. They couldn't of stripped Moses and given him the regular belt, so they must of tried to install him as the super-champion again.

Dunno why he didn't take it, I don't know when this happened that they tried to give him his belt back, but obviously he didn't make weight anyway and lost them all on the scales.

 

So to sum up...Campbell/Funeka was for the WBA(super)/IBF and WBO belts??**** this is confusing ****

No,it was for the vacant WBO and IBF titles(on the line for Funeka only).

 

The way I understood it was it was for the IBF/WBO belts. Then about 3 days BEFORE the fight the WBA said to Campbell if you pay the sanctioning fee we will give your belt back. He said OK. Then he did not make weight.

That is how I understood it to happen.
