This may be old news to fellow ESB'ers, but i just got really pumped
when i read that sergio martinez is defending against unknown but
dangerous razor dzinziruk. This is a risky encounter for the champion.
NOTHING to gain and EVERYTHING to lose. He hasnt even cashed in yet
off his pw KO, and now he's going to fight a guy who could very well beat him. Either way, the fans can't lose, especially purists like me. I'm glad
that sergei is finally getting a fight he deserves and can showcase in.
Sergio's handlers had better gotten shaw to agree to a rematch clause, as
    I smell an upset here.

If anything. I'm dumbfounded that they made this fight. Sergei goes
from an aussie club fighter at 154 to the middleweight championship
of the world. Go figure, boxing really is listening to it's fans now.

Martinez is gambling his future as a PPV star on a fight with a very skilled and relatively unknown fighter. You have go give Martinez props. This fight really is 'little to gain and everything to lose'.

From what I understand...didn't HBO give him no choice really?

I hadn't heard that. HBO couldn't use its leverage to get him a more lucrative fight? That's hard to believe. Maybe Maravilla should move to Showtime.

Yeh, I think I remember virusscene and Dan Rafael reporting that HBO told him to fight Dzinziruk to take the fight or step. I find it unusual myself, but Rafael also said HBO seemed to disrespect him during the Williams negotiations as well.

I think the problem is HBO promised Shaw to have a spot for Dzinziruk on a telecast...with Angulo having his problems there's not really another name to showcase Sergiy other than against Martinez. Who else would they really feature him in with and hope to do well? Foreman? Spinks? I think thats what happened anyways.

Yeah, HBO forced it on him, but still, its not like Sergio made a big deal out of it.

Right. Not knocking Sergio, just saying he didn't have any choice even if he wanted to fight someone else.

Dzinziruk has that sleeper vibe about him, like he could really come out and become a major player after spending a lot of time in the dark.

SD is a no Paul Williams. Much lower workrate, but also a much more disciplined fighter with a world class jab. This could be a really interesting match-up. If Martinez's athleticism can't overcome Dzinziruk's poise and precision this could actually result in an upset. My money will still be on Martinez though.

Martinez UD, but the more I think about it, an early-middle round KO is more appealing a prediction.

Yeh, that's my annoyance as well. I don't understand how Sergio can beat up the lineal middleweight champion whom HBO invested in (and Pavlik had to earn it as well) and KO Paul Williams in round 2 (whom HBO invested much in) yet a guy like Berto gets far more respect.
