By Donna Ritchie
"The fight went to a decision and Ibragimov won the decision and I just have to get back in line and it doesn't mean that it's over," Evander Holyfield told reporters via telephone from Moscow following his loss to WBO heavyweight champion Sultan Ibragimov. The former four-time champion said he will assess his performance after he actually sees video of the fight and he'll take into consideration what people say about his performance in the ring. "Did I do so bad that it's not worth it for me to try?" Evander also stated that he was surprised Ibragimov moved as much as he did and which forced him to change his game plan. "I didn't throw enough combinations as my corner wanted me to but he [Ibragimov] was quick in the sense that I didn't feel comfortable in throwing the combinations." As for a body shot in the tenth round that appeared to cause some discomfort, Evander admitted, "It was a clean shot, it was a clean shot but it didn't hurt me. It made me draw up but not to a point...it was a very good shot."

It's very sad when fighters tarnish their legacy with delusions of being able to continue fighting well beyond their expiration date. You can almost understand it if it's because they are broke and are looking for a payday. But by all accounts Holy is rolling in cash. It really makes you respect guys like Lennox who go out on top with their health and dignity intact.

Sad ****. This will only get worse for Evander and could end in real tragedy if he keeps fighting.

I bet without all the streess from the public hasseling this guy he would do even better....It's gotta be wearing to deal with all these washed up 35 year olds that say life ends at 35.......for the 45, 50, 60 year olds that dog the guy.....you wish you could walk around the block let alone have the energy and desire to train like he does.

Let him live his life.

This is sad - he can do what he wants to do, but I don't want to see him end up like Meldrick Taylor.

interesting, I saw a fight recently where the 23 year old got his head taken off (you know what I mean) and no one said he should quit....no one, they just said he got caught. I bet if that was evander the commision would strip him of his license and that is WRONG.....

:good
If he's cleared by doctors that he's fit to continue, by GOD let the man continue. :good He's doing what he loves and is making alot of money doing it. He's not punch drunk or rambling on as, say Bowe does.

Holy seems to have his wits about him still, and he just lost a decision to a world titleholder. Nothing to be ashamed of.

If he wants to fight, I say let him fight. :good

He must have seen Rocky Balboa and assumed it was a realistic depiction of what he could do

Expected this.

Holyfield will point to hurting Sultan in the 12th and the fact he managed to go the distance as proof that he can hang with the 'big dogs'. The fact that he lost so many rounds, looking slow and shipping free shots doing so, and was fortunately in there with someone looking to fight tactically rather than go for the old guy's jugular, will be glossed over.

Love ya Holy, but please call it a day now. This title shot was a gift, now it should be your last.

The same bloody mindness that got him to the top in the early 90s against the odds; is the bloody mindness that makes him think he can still achieve his goals he stated.

The problem is the casual boxing supporter will buy a couple more meaningless wins as a sign of a revival, and will be giving it the maybe this time when Holyfield gets his next big bout.
