At first I thought it was a lot of bollocks but it seems they are in discussions. Golden Boy is working to finalize an Amir Khan-Juan Manuel Marquez bout for May 15 on HBO. "We are actively working on it," Golden Boy's Schaefer told ESPN.com. "Khan is willing to fight to him and Marquez wants to fight at 140. He told us he doesn't want to fight at 135 anymore." Marquez, the lightweight champion, would move up to junior welterweight to fight Khan, who holds a 140-pound title. England's Khan recently signed with Golden Boy, which has promoted Marquez for years. Schaefer said the two leading sites to host the fight are Las Vegas and Houston. http://espn.go.com/sports/boxing/no...ok/glen-johnson-meets-yusaf-mack-paydays-mind Maidana, meanwhile, could face Zab Judah,Victor Cayo or even Tim Bradley. And Ortiz could face Nate Campbell on the Khan-Marquez undercard. 140 is really shaping up as a quality division with quality fights. --- Anyway, what do we make of Amir's chances against Marquez? DO you think if Khan wins it will be regarded as a similar type of win as Hatton's over Tszyu?
60 - 40 in favour of marquez imo. if khan wins, the manner of the victory will determine how it will be regarded. i.e. there would have to be no dodgy early stoppages or controversial decisions. then again there will be a minority of fans who won't hold any kind of victory in high regard, pointing to JMM being much smaller (although vastly experienced and un-shot)
I really can't decide who would win. It really would depend on what JMM turns up on the night. If it is the slow and easy to hit overweight JMM, then I pick Khan by UD. But if JMM looks better at 140, then there is a good chance of JMM taking it. A 50/50 fight for me! It could be regarded in the same way, depending on how the odds look and how Khan handles JMM.
Hopefully this happens, **** easy money on Khan, he wins this one so so comfortably, maybe even by stoppage.
think it will be like the marquez diaz fight with khan leading on the scorecards and then marquez stopping him late on.
it will be exactly like hatton and tszyu khan is only good for fighting old men like barrera and marquez ok he won against a young guy last time out but he was a manufactured young guy i think khan is missing that tuff streek a boxer needs i think if marques can catch khan he might knock him out but i doubt khan will stand still for long enough for that
DON't want It to happen as Khan will win at this stage and j can't be arsed to debate with the gloating nuthuggers
Freddie Roach didn't want it. I think he wants Maidana to lose a couple with in the next couple of years so becomes irrelivant and can't test Khan's chin :deal
Agreed. As a huge JMM fan, I am massively disappointed by this fight as I think that if Khan can stay on the outside, he'll win wide on points. I don't want to see that, TBH, and I don't see the point in JMM taking this fight on; admittedly he wants to become the first Mexican to win titles in 4 divisions, but stylistically there are much easier options for him at 140, IMO. Obviously, if it happens, it's a really big fight for Khan, but I think people should put it in context. I hate the fact that it's at 140.
Yes its being said that Maidana has agreed to wait for Khan till after this fight and then he has to fight him or get stripped. For me as a Khan fan this is a great fight for his U.S debut fighting a top 10 P4P fighter like JMM and who is just coming off a loss to Floyd, and still is a very big name in the U.S and Mexico and will help Khan become known over there if he wins. I think he will.
