Holy ****. This guy has a 10-113 record!

I saw Reggie fight live once. He really knew how to box — not necessarily that he could beat top guys, but he knew all the tricks to stick around and hear the final bell in most cases unless it was someone who was a major puncher or really world class who would just blow him away.

Like most guys whose names are showing up this thread (or others like it), he was able to find a comfort zone most often where he would settle into something just above a sparring level, where there was what Teddy Atlas likes to call a ‘silent agreement’ with the opponent that Reggie wasn’t going to do too much to raise a ruckus and the other guy would figure out he could win comfortably and get some rounds out of it … live practice, so to speak, with a all-but-guaranteed W at the end of the night.

As with most of these — I wouldn’t call them journeymen so much as ‘professional opponents’ — his livelihood depended on him making it to the final bell so there would be no suspension and he could be fighting again a week or two later. He also had connections so he could bring half the card (carting along several fellow ‘opponents’ to fight the local A-side boys) on club shows, so he’d pick up a bit extra via expenses and a booking fee.

I think it’s pretty much becoming a lost art as there aren’t enough club-level cards for guys like that to make a living.

mate, watch UK cards. there’s dozens of these guys, and they are often “fighting” [sparring] live on major networks, in 4 or 6 rounders, at 9pm prime time

Even worse journeymen.

Lots of these guys are able to fight, its just more financially viable to do 4 rounders, keep their hands up, move around and lose than going all out and trying to win and then not getting many fights.
