Conceding that Ali was a special case, he was nevertheless landing right leads at will, Sting. He couldn't do that against Frazier, Norton or pretty much anyone. And did Lyle struggle to land on Foreman? If he did, George spent a lot of time on the deck or staggering around the ring. George had many great attributes. His power and strength are beyond argument so, if he had a great defence too, it begs the question how he only made two defences of his title. George in 76 was trying to be a boxer. He won't easily beat a seasoned boxer like Holyfield that way. He would do better to be committed to aggression and he didn't seem as if he was comfortable with that in 76. Fighting a counter puncher as good as Holyfield when caught between two styles seems a very dangerous place to be starting from. I'd pick George of Caracas over Evander, although not with utter certainty. Post Zaire George was diminished to the point where I'd expect Evander to weather a few storms and use the nous he had in 96 to see the job out for a close points win. It'd be a really good fight though. Do we agree on that?
I think the Holyfield that fought Tyson gets underrated actually. I still don't think he'd beat early Foreman but it's one helluva performance. If the Douglas Holyfield brawled he'd lose for sure. It all comes down to that if. I rewatched Douglas - Holyfield the other day and was massively impressed at how disciplined and sharp he was. Granted Douglas was out of shape but Holyfield utterly schooled him. He was even outjabbing him. So i'd agree with you in that if Holyfield brawled he'd be hammered but i am backing him not to going by what i saw. Could be wrong. Foreman even at this stage would still be hell to beat.
