i have only watched boxing since 90's but for me the best heavyweight round on the big stage i can think of, crazy to think out of those wars it was bowe who never recovered, and the older smaller holyfield went on to bigger things
It was far and away the most dramatic and exciting round of perhaps the greatest Heavyweight fight of all time. Holyfield was badly hurt by an uppercut, but his fighting spirit allowed him to weather Bowe's monsterous wave of right hands to actually close out the round on the front foot, landing a series of lefts and rights himself. It's about as good as it gets at championship level. That said, these are rounds in the Heavyweight division that I rank higher. Round 15, Norton vs Holmes. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IupyEYB-27c Round 1, Moorer vs Cooper http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=14TTSe10GHw Round 3, Holyfield vs Cooper http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CD8dKFFIE_A
I don't know about those last two selfkill. Neither Moorer nor Holyfield were hurt as bad as Holyfield was in that tenth round when they came back against Cooper. And I think we both agree that Bowe was of higher calibur than Bert. Those two factors, for me at least, make Bowe-Holyfield round 10 better.
On the contrary, both fighters were knocked down in those rounds unlike Bowe/Holyfield round 10. Moorer, especially, was seriously hurt. He was on the verge of being stopped. It just makes the round even more incredible that not only did he rally back, but he also scored an equally heavy knockdown on Cooper, who was also an inch away from being stopped. Both have legitimate claims for being ranked higher than round 10 of Bowe/Holyfield in my estimation. I can agree with the argument that the calibre of the fighters weren't as great, but to say they weren't as hurt is false. imo. I'll admit. I think Round 10 of Bowe/Holyfield is slightly overrated. Sure, Holyfield mounted a comeback, but it was not on the same level of Moorer's comeback against Cooper, or even Evander's comeback on Cooper, where he landed 9-10 unanswered punches. Bowe smoothered most of Holyfield's work at the end, but that said, they are all terrific displays of heart.
its ironic this cos a just watched the holyfield v bowe trilogy the other night with a few of the boys and that 10th rnd of the first fight is a good a round as you will eve see. holyfield were ****ed after the uppercut. my mate who had never seen the fight before were sayin oh his on his way out then boom holyfield cums right back . truely awesome round. R.I.P. ARTURO "THUNDER" GATTI GATTI:happyGATTI:happyGATTI:happy
i think holyfield bowe was a bigger fight which made it more special to me than cooper holyfield and cooper morrer even those were awesome, i forgot about holmes norton WOW what an awesome round
I disagree about it taking more out of Bowe than Holyfield. Bowe's undoing was his lack of discipline, there is no doubt about that! After beating Holyfield in Nov 1992, Riddick went to a fast-food restaurant & ordered a ridiculous amount of food for himself! Eddie Futch always maintained Bowe was highly talented, but that his disrespect for discipline would over-rule his talent & skills in the end! Futch was a pretty good judge in my view & that's an understatement!
holyfield-cooper is one of the best fights ever! ****, so is holyfield-qwai, holyfield-dokes, holyfield-bowe 1, i'm seeing a pattern....
I'd say Futch was an excellent judge. He saw enough and quit on Bowe after the first Golota fight, even when Bowe got back in shape.
