That stark warning was issued here yesterday by the master trainer who handled Holyfield before taking over Lewis. Emanuel Steward, in Las Vegas to commentate for television on Holyfield's WBA-IBF unification with Michael Moorer tomorrow night, said: 'If Evander fights Lennox there is a real risk of a ring tragedy. 'Lewis is too big, too strong and too powerful for Holyfield now. He could finish up like Ali. Evander's view of his position in the world of boxing today has become blurred in his mind by his victories over Mike Tyson but the truth is that he is a shot fighter. It was just that Tyson was more shot. That offered Holyfield the perfect climax to his career. He should have gone out on a high after beating Tyson.' Holyfield has pledged to meet WBC world champion Lewis if he gains revenge here for his 1994 defeat by Moorer. Steward suspects that Moorer will prevail again and thereby prompt Holyfield to retire. Clearly, he believes that would be the best outcome for Holyfield's long-term well being. Ali, who has difficulty talking, has been diagnosed as having Parkinson's disease but few doubt that his condition is a result of brain damage sustained in the ring. He has, however, shown encouraging signs recently of responding to unorth-dox ****** gland and dead foetus treatment in Mexico. Steward would prefer not to be in attendance on the night when Holyfield takes the one fight too many which might leave him in need of similar extreme help. He said: 'If Evander beats Moorer and the showdown with Lennox takes place I will work the fight. But I would be much happier if I didn't have to do so. It could be a terrible night for boxing. ' Holyfield, the 35-year-old veteran of several brutal battles in the ring, resents Steward's outburst and puts it down to propaganda on behalf of Lewis. He is also irritated by Moorer's accusations that he is a head-butter and a cheat hiding behind his religion.
Ali had ****** gland & Dead Foetus treatment?? :blood What...the....****? Anyways imagine if you told emmanuel in 97 that Holyfield would still be fighting in 2011... He would have slapped you! I do think evander will have a few problems later in life though, he's been through a ton of wars AND copped his fair share of punishment.... i have to always commend his Heart though :good
1997 was probably the right time for him to retire. He's clearly NOT in a state like Ali, as of 2011. He's almost 49 years old already, so when people say he's gonna have problems "later in life" that's not really saying much. 20, 30 years from now he'll be OLD AS HELL anyway. People can get things like Alzheimers, Parkinsons, other dementia-type conditions, and strokes, when they hit their 70s and 80s anyway, so unless it happens to him in the next few years it might not be all that unusual.
Holy should've retired in '97 after Moorer II. Anyway, it still pisses me off that Zombie Holy was blantantly robbed by corrupt Don King judges against Valuev in '08, because i reckon he would've retired after picking up the WBA title at age 46, & losing it in a bid to unify against Wlad or Vitali... at least a Klit fight in '09 would've gotten him a big payday.
