Holyfield, Holmes, Ali - rate their punching power

Great thread, BigUkranian, as I would rate them as being relatively similar in power. Ali was fastest. Holmes was a chooser. Holy was a decent all-rounder. Great thing about the classic forum is that those more educated than myself will be able to give good examples. Following

 

Around the same.. Evander and 67 ali the best combo punchers

 

Holyfield to me with his left hook had the hardest single shot of the three.

Holmes had the hardest Jab
Ali might have had the best right hand.

It's pretty close. Regarding versatility and punch selection, I think Holmes was the best of the three.

 

I'd say Ali a 7
Holy field a 8
And Holmes a 6 .

 

Ali hits harder than Holyfield who hits harder than Holmes.

 

They are all about a 6.

 

Holyfield . 8 very good left hook .
Physical enough to have some pop being aggressive counter puncher.

Holmes 7. Decent all around snapping shots

Ali 6. Hurt you after so many rounds some on cuts...not overly powerful until in a rhythm.

Power wise I think Holmes had the best right cross and uppercut. Holyfield the best left hook and body punches. Ali was the fastest and sharpest.

 

They're all pretty close. All three were accurate, but Ali was a bit sharper, Holyfield was willing to mix it up with his opponents and really beat on them in a workman like fashion, and Holmes could set up his offense with his GOAT jab. All three were men who could hurt and stop their opponents even though none of them were very hard punchers.

Evander Holyfield had no power- Evan Fields had power. Sorry, but it is the truth.

Ali- speed is power, but he was not a power puncher.

Holmes- crackin' right hand when he wanted to show it. Surprised he is being underrated on this thread.

 

Holyfield is about a 7.5. He had a nasty left hook to the body, Foreman claimed Holyfield had the best left hook to the body he ever tasted. Holy dropped Bowe with one shot was the first to drop Mercer and beat Tyson all about the ring, he’s the best puncher of the 3 mainly because he commits to his punches more and is eager to try and take you out.

Holmes is about a 6.5 His jab was nasty and his right cross would get your attention. But he landed at will on many an opponent and many didn’t go. Holmes also threw a good uppercut. He tried to mimic Ali with his jab and movement though he was never quite as smooth as Ali but he did sit down on his punches more and therefore edges Ali out here in terms of power.

Ali I’d give a 6. But with his lighting speed and superior reflexes he could put you in a lot of trouble in a hurry. The most fluid combination puncer of the 3. Ali could fire off volleys almost without effort and while moving back or foreword, he’d change gears and explode in to opponents. Ali was in no hurry to stop his opponents (usually) he’d play and just take you apart and if it came it came.
