Just watched the preview of the next Haye fight at Inside Sport and Evander was one of the studio guests next to Steve Bunce and boy was he slurring.
He was a great warrior with alot of heart but please Evander...........STOP BOXING NOW
I would hate to see him suffering in a couple of years.
What's the age limit for professional boxers?

I don't think there is one, when I was yooung I saw Roberto Duran fight at 50 years old. I saw that interview as well and I definetly felt the same, even when Holyfeild fought Tyson he was quite articulate and seemed to be all there.

That's not punch drunk. That's the sound of a warrior.

    The "stop boxing" doesn't work.

He's already damaged. To continue boxing would only increase the damage, but he's already in an unfortunate state.

Someone needs to stop that boy from getting in there with Tyson. He doesnt need the money and even if he did what good would it do him if he couldnt use it cause he was all ****ed up. I could see why Tyson wants this fight but why the hell does Holy want it?

Holy is damaged badly already, and it's only going to get worse. The best thing he can do now is quit before he makes the rest of his life even more miserable than it may already end up becoming. You'd have hoped that someone close to him would have convinced him to stop 10 years ago.

  9. I think a mandatory retirement age should be 47-48, **** LArry Holmes and Foreman fought beyond that, but Holy's fought so many hard tough bruising battles that he will probaly have dementia or Alziehemers by the time he's 55, why the **** is he still fighting?? **** he's made so much damn $$$ and he should have invested most of it:huh his family and kids should try to talk to him and tell him to quit so they won't have to be spoon feeding him in 10 years..

Holyfield has never sounded like a scholar, but he's definitely been fighting too long, that much is obvious.

My own opinion is that he should have retired after the Ruiz debacles. The reality is that he will probably continue fighting into his 50's.

What's dangerous about a fighter like Holyfield is that his whole career success was based on his will and refusal to give up. That attitude persists in the face of obvious evidence that his skills have badly eroded.

There are none so blind as those who will not see.

I've watched several Holyfield interviews from England this week and if you know what your talking about you know he's not slurring his speech. He's sounds the same as he did 10 or 15 years ago. I just watched 5 vids on youtube from interviews before his Bowe I fight in 92, Bowe II fight in 93, Mercer fight in 95 and his Tyson fight in 96 and the Sultan fight in 07 and he sounds the same. It's that southern african american dylic in his speech that makes him sound like he does. So quit Holy dissing. I've got the facts, you haters have an opinion, and opinions are like assholes, everybodys got one.

I have been interviewing Evander since 1986 and he isn't really much different , he always that characteristic drawl and useage of sketchy dialect.

If you watch the interview from before the second Bowe fight when he states Quote.. " I never promise anyone anything , but i Promise you , i will beat Riddick Bowe .." he slurred slightly then and his words were stretched out.. Its a mannerism he always had.. He is actually pretty sharp.. Even so , it may be a little more advanced and he really should not be fighting nowadays.. He will end up sounding like ****in Terry Norris, the king of slurr..

yeah i'd have to hear the interview, but listening to him in interviews about 1 year of so ago, he talked deliberately, pretty coherently, but a little slow. It's hard to tell that whether he's been damaged or not. I think his reflexes have obviously slowed and anybody fighting as long as him has to have some degree of wear on the brain more than the average 44 year old.

I think there should be very extensive testing for guys over 40 (which maybe they'd have to partially pay for), but if they pass they should be able to fight.

Yeah, I think Meldrick Taylor is the worst I seen, you have to feel sorry for him.

I think Holyfield should retire, but none of us have the right to try to stop a man from working, he is obviously still good enough to compete against top 10 fighters, and beat most top 20. Hoyfield is the only active Heavyweight that still is commanding PPV type dollars, and is still a big part of the reason why the average guy still watches the struggling Heavyweight division.
