Lewis definitely Mercer could get him late, Joshua isn't stopping Mercer and if Joshua tires, Mercer might be able to pull out a win. But I don't think Mercer can win on the cards he's too inactive, he was always dangerous and competitive but his poor condition and subsequent terrible work rate always cost him at the elite level. Overall I give the edge to Joshua in a close fight. Ruddock has a punchers chance with his left hand but like Mercer he had a poor work rate. He fought in spurts even pre-Lewis when he gave Tyson hell in 2 fights. He might hurt and scare Joshua but he can't put enough pressure on to get the stoppage and gets out worked in enough rounds to lose on points, or more likely gets stopped late. Morrison has a punchers chance too with the big left hook. But the way he ate uppercuts vs Lewis and Joshua having a big uppercut and Morrison's fragile chin, I think Joshua blasts him out without much difficulty. Tua get's out boxed, he couldn't slip a jab if his life depended upon it. Joshua too big and rangy. Tua has a punchers chance of course he always does against everyone though. Ibeabuchi, maybe, he was a beast, a mini Nigerian Joshua who could set a pace that could make Joshua gas. Not sure how he deals with Joshua's size though we never saw Ike vs a super heavy. Pick'em fight for me.
All good points. I'm just not sold on Joshua....I think his performance against Wlad turned me off. I felt like he was real lucky Wlad wasn't a year or two younger.
Oh no doubt that version of Joshua was not as good as prime Wlad or perhaps even slightly faded Wlad as Wlad had been in decline since Pianeta and Joshua/Wlad was a damn close fight right up til the end. But that doesn't mean Joshua isn't any good, just not as good as Wlad. Joshua is also improving the Parker fight showed a less exciting but less vulnerable Joshua. More measured, lighter, better stamina, less likely to get caught.
Would this be a Evander Holyfield VADA tested version or Evan Fields rounded to the gills? I agree I think Holyfield is a nightmare for any heavyweight in history.
None of these are certain or even close to certain. We need to see more of Joshua to make a serious guess at how these dudes would do. Of that group, I wouldn't give Holy much hope. He struggled with two grandaddies and was decisively beaten by Bowe, a smaller and lighter HW than AJ. I'll pass judgment on the rest of your pack after AJ faces Pov, Fury and Wilder.
Nah, one thing Wilder has proven that Golota never did, is that he won't fold. I have a suspicion bad chin or not, you're gonna have to hit Wilder hard enough to disconnect his senses completely or he's gonna keep firing back.
I agree with the spirit of what you're saying. I'd slightly alter the date ranges.... Holyfield 90-93 Bowe 92-95 Tyson 86-90, 96 Golota 96
Hey, it was far easier at 4:30AM to copy and paste the thread title and replace Evander, 92 was ballparkish. The spirit of the post is what counted.
This pretty much sums it up perfectly. I dont think headbutts would be an issue due to AJs height and how straight up he usually is. Im American and while most of the Brit AJ fans are quite obnoxious and delusional i think hes a pretty good hw with some shortcomings that would get exposed against the heavies from the 90s. I think he loses to most of them in a one off but he wouldnt be an easy fight for anyone.
