I would argue that this sort of adversity serves to reveal and highlight the strengths of a great man.

:lol: Yes all the boxing fans and experts in the past who saw louis in the flesh and then of course , men from later eras and said he had a chance of beating them are all wrong while you are correct :patsch

Hey i know take away all the steroids and then get back to me , or is that not being fair ?

Louis hit even harder than it seemed. He was so fluid that it was hard to tell. He'd be too much for Holyfield.

Evan Fields might very well beat Louis. Evander Holyfield? Never.

Like people said it is very difficult to compare eras. People say joe was slow, but fights were different in his age. When you fight 15 or 20 rounds it is literally impossible to fight on your toes and work as hard as 12 round fighters do.

What we do know is this. Joe Louis is one of the hardest p4p HW punchers of all time. He has the most title defenses in heavyweight history. He ruled his division with very little effort in his prime.

We can say none of those things about Evander Holyfield.

More Old Vs. New crap. Ali won his first title in Feb. 1964 and then KO'd Foerman in 74'. Foreman lost a decision to a prime Holyfield in 91', then somehow Foreman won a title in 94. That's a 30 year span there. An aging Ali dispatched a much greater Foreman than a prime Holyfield could not KTFO. And here is Holyfield today, less than a week after being robbed of his own latest championship in 2008!!! There's a real link between Ali and Holyfield and that's George Foreman. Ali's first championship win took place almost 45 years before Holyfields latest championship robbery. This old vs. new fighter crap is BS when comparing great fighters, especially fighters as great as Joe Louis, Ali, and Holyfield. They would all do fine in any era.

how so? I'm sick of people overrating former fighters like they're ****in invincible. I would say holy is a tough fight for louis not the other way around. Evander has always shown great heart, good lateral movement, and inside fighting. Joe louis is one of the most overrated heavies ever....one two kinda guy.

Legitimate point, however Louis was green. I'd still go with Louis if they were both prime

If Holyfield can lose to Moorer, he can definitely lose to Louis.

YES. Louis is / was a very hyped American fighter during the second world war/ post war. There was a reason his nickname was the "brown bomber". Joe louis is a great fighter but also a media creation meant to intimidate the world.

Holyfield had life or death matches with guys like Cooper and Braxton, who is like 5'6 or 5'7. I think Holyfield would possibly beat the Louis of the late 30's and early 40's, but if Louis was given the roids and other break-through's in sports science and supplements we have today, I wouldnt think twice about picking Louis over Holyfield, and it would be by knockout as well IMO.
