So with the WSSB tournament set to take place will the winner overtake Holyfield as greatest Cruiserweight ever?

    QF
    Usyk vs Huck
    Briedis vs Perez

    Gassiev vs Wlod
    Dorticos vs Kudryashov

There are four undefeated belt holders entering the WSSB and the top 3 seeds already have meaningful wins going in. So the QF and SF results are speculative but just to get an idea how the potential winner's resume could look after the tournament.

Usyk - Glowacki, Gassiev, Briedis, Huck, Mchunu, Hunter
Gassiev - Lebedev, Usyk, Dorticos, Wlod, Shimmel
Briedis - Usyk, Huck, Gassiev, Durodula, Charr
Dorticos - Gassiev, Usyk, Kudryashov, Kalenga

Holyfield has Qawi, DeLeon, Ocasio, Parkey, Tillman in a four year run, 18-0 record, becoming Undisputed Champion. No doubt in my mind whoever wins the WSSB is the new King at CW all time. If Usyk wins he'll be Undisputed at 15-0 beating Holyfield's record and already beat his prior record by winning the title in his 10th fight.

The title was intended to foster discussion but the answer is yes. If Usyk or Gassiev win they're undoubtedly the #1 ATG in the division. Briedis would be closer but still edges it for me and Dorticos it could still be argued.

People think Uysk vs Gassiev is a foregone conclusion. 50/50 fight for me and i think it will be both of them in the final.

I give Usyk an edge but it could certainly go either way.

Judging Usyk last performance with Russ Amber the canadian cutman and assistant as his head trainer I see Usyk not reaching his full potential.
This clown was giving him 0 good advise in his corner along with a lousey Russian accent for some stupid reason only he knows. I couldnt believe how bad that corner was.

Good thread. Its debatable, but for me, I don't think they will be #1 yet, but clear #2. I think part of why Holyfield was #1 cw was his success at HW colored his cw reign. Also, Qawi is a better win than any of the guys at this point, imo.

If the winner of this goes on to dominate the division for a few more years, and either never tries HW, or doesn't get embarrassed when he does, then I think he'll have a better argument for #1 all time.

What he did at HW is irrelevant to what he accomplished in the CW division. Roy Jones doesn't become a top 10 MW because of what he did at LHW.

Context matters. If the winner here goes on to get embarrassed at HW (and personally, I think that will happen if they ever do), that makes the talent level of Holyfield era shine in comparison.

We'll to agreed to disagree on this point, but I do think your thread is good and your position is certainly defensible.

Holyfield will always be the king of the division, that much so it should be renamed the Evanderweight division.......
