I was going to ask what was the bigger letdown delay, but I figured that was an easy choice as Holyfield-Tyson 1 was a pretty good fight (although I think winning 1996 Fight of the Year was ridiculous) and Mayweather-Pacquiao was pretty boring. My personal guess is that a 2010 matchup would play out similar, but at a faster pace and better fight, and better for the sport. You rarely get the two best P4P fighters facing each other.

But forgetting about the letdown and looking at the matchups, if you had a chance for one of these fights to have occurred, which would you have rather seen?

Thinking about what we missed out on is depressing

This was the fight for me. No one was beating Manny in 2008-2010. Fighter of the decade, p4p the best for 3 years in a row 2009-2011 , and Floyd #2. And Floyd book marking him for p4p #1 in 2008 and 2012.. I see this fight as "the fight" since the fab 4. I know how hard to say that knowing how everything turned out. But back then, man this was it for me. I think it goes completely different than 2015..

    I'd rather watch Tyson Holyfield.

    It would be more competitive.

Holyfield would have always beaten Tyson. Pac had a good chance against Mayweather in 2010.

Pre prison Tyson in 91 would have had a very good chance of dethroning Holyfield. Surprisingly though I think it might have gone to a close decision win.

Never comes up much but Jones - Hopkins II in 2002 also deserves a mention.

not even a second thought. Tyson v Holyfield in 91 is probably my all time fight I'd like to see happen that didn't. Anything Mayweather I could take or leave personally. that 91 fight left so many unanswered questions to this day, was pre prison Tyson too much for Holy at that time, or was Evander's heart always the trump card? I go from one to another frequently when thinking about that fight. the 96 fight answered a few questions but no where near all to me, post prison Mike didn't even have the stamina to make it through a 12 round fight.

Tyson and Holyfield - because unlike the other 2, these guys actually wanted to fight.

Always liked the bigger guys so Tyson and Holyfield in 1991 gets my vote though Mayweather against a then fearsome pacman would have been awesome as well.

Tyson V Holyfield is the fight that every one back then wanted to see come off. It would have shown us what Tyson still had and if he had it in him to beat the real deal. Who knows? Perhaps Holyfield would have always beaten him, the actual fights they did have were a older, more shopworn version of the two men. The manny pac V Floyd fight back, once again, two older versions with more mileage. It could have been a classic with manny putting pressure on Floyd like he'd never experienced. It's a big shame when fight s like this don't happen till years down the line. I'm all for a build up to wet the appetite but not till a potential fight s gone stale.
