Could buster have gotten up after he got tagged and got put down ? His eyes looked pretty shot ? But could he have gotten up ?

Not sure he had it in him to get up tbh.
The fire he'd Had in Tokyo was gone.

I think he could have gotten up but just didn't have the motivation and preferred to stay down.

Douglas was going to launch an uppercut, Holyfield avoided it and countered Douglas in a great way, that fight Holyfield was so quick, light on his feet and it was a pleasure to watch him in that fight, Douglas would have no chance...

Douglas had a purse of 24 million dollars for this fight which was huge in 1990. I think he did not want to take that much of a beating on top of the wrong mindset already going into the fight when going home with such life-changing money.

At that time I doubt if Buster Douglas (considering the condition he was in going into the fight) had it in him to get up from that.

Mills Lane was referee and he said.

"I don't know if he could have got up. I just know he didn't try to."

Buster was probably hit a lot harder by Tyson and got up. Then again, he was in control of that fight until that knockdown. He must've known that, even if he had got up against Evander, there was no chance of winning. That version of Holyfield was as good as he got imo. Razor sharp.

No one will ever know but it doesn't matter. He cashed out before he got tot he ring. As Gil Clancy said, "You can see the jelly. Especially in his breasts."

I think he was physically capable of standing up before the count of 10, but not of being competitive had he done so.

I guess Buster thought the same and decided a beating merely for the sake of it, wasn't worth it.

Tbh, I thought a properly prepared Douglas would beat EH at the time. I still sort of do but we got the fat, blubbery Douglas instead.

Apparently Holy and his team had identified Buster’s propensity to sometimes throw uppercuts that weren’t appropriate to launch and that also left Buster wide open after missing,

I agree that Mike Tyson’s uppercut was the harder punch. I love that punch in its very own right, among the ATG single punches in boxing.

I also agree with everyone who believes that Douglas didn’t even try to get up and that while he likely could’ve gotten up, his lack of conditioning made it not worth it because he’d likely still get stopped at some later point.

No. He was 15lbs overweight (as compared to the fight against Mike Tyson) and already had a large purse so he probably didn't want to spend a long time in the ring.
