Anyone with a reasonable amount of boxing knowledge will agree that Evander was a great champion and still is a true warrior.

However what depresses me about our great sport is that the powers that be cannot unite and put together some form of legislative rule to protect these ageing athletes from themselves and that the promotors that greedily strive to make these match ups take a slice of their profits and go buy a conscious.

I think that pro boxers' licences should expire when they reach 40 years of age. I know that Mr Hopkins, Foreman or even in the past men like Archie Moore would argue against me but consider Ali, it breaks my heart every time I see him on TV in recent years. How enjoyable as a boxing fan would it be if we could observe the best loved boxer of all time sitting on boxing panels today giving his expert opinions along with his exceptional wit and humour...we've been robbed!

I think Holyfield wins it just on overall shape.

Bothas awful, he must have some amazing management to keep getting his name up there all these years, even in his prime in the late 90s he was only a fringe contender. Holyfield beats him any day of the week even if hes 60

Man, this is a terrible fight, and definitely one that should NOT have any bearing on title shots.

Why get a title shot by beating Botha??? That's ridiculous.

People scoff about Haye and Barret, but ****, Barrett is leagues ahead of todays Botha. And when was the last fight Holy won against a guy in the top 20? Or stopped a guy in the top 50?

Well, if these old, shot fighters choose to continue making boxing their profession, I like that they are fighting fighters in a similar position as opposed to young, hungry guys just looking to add names to their resume.

Along the same lines, I like that Vazquez and Marquez are fighting each other instead of a young, hungry fighter.

What's the point of this fight?
Holyfield needs to stop the delusions and recognize that he's done at the top level.

    You're right on point.

However, Holyfield should actually have beat Valuev in a close fight one year ago - not because he gave a good performance by any means tho, but because Valuev was even worse..

    Oh,no,what a nightmare!:dead

Two old geezers fighting each other and the victor gets a shot at one of the Klitschko brothers.:-(
    Sounds like a scary movie!
Botha looked horrible in his last outing to a ring about 2 weeks ago.He 43 year old opponent Carrion should have been the winner of their fight.Unfortunetely, they scored it a mayority draw.
Botha looked totally shot, and so did Holly when he fought Valuev.
Neither Holly nor Botha deserver a shot at any top 10 fighter.
Holly vs Valuev, and Botha vs Carrion were two of the most boring heavy weight fights I ve seen within the last couple of years.A true pain for my sore eyes!

Get this fight on! I would love to see it. winner takes all. They are big names in the heavyweight division even now. So yeah they should get one last chance. Being a Botha supporter i think Evander is now at a time where Botha can beat him. An get some well deserved rating points. Didnt look so sharp in his last fight but it was at the last minute and he did break his hand. Dont agree with the Holyfield comment either. He beat Valuev as far as i am concerned.

I remember Holyfield contemplating retirement after his 1st loss to Bowe in 93 (there's a video on youtube, the same one where Lewis and Bowe argue).

16 years later he's still fighting and came very close to winning a world title!!! The guys unreal.

Wasn't Evander scheduled to box an exhibition match in Africa against a guy named Sammy??

there is no way in hell, the winner of this faces vitali......no way....botha had 12 round majority win over a guy with 9 fights ....holyfield looked like **** against a giant piece of **** in his last fight....i would think that a commission would not sanction this, whether or not the organization of the wbc does....

Evander just does not quit does he? Vitali would beat him easily I think. But Evander does have heart and he would give it 100 percent that is for sure.
