Cooper even drops Holyfield...And Cooper was landing some big shots early in the fight..But in the end he just got out powered.

Because Cooper was a legitimate banger, Holyfield was ready for a different style of fight because he was prepared for a different opponent and Cooper was a substitute, and Cooper was motivated instead of being lax and drugged up.

In the end, Holy gutted it out, outlasting and outclassing Cooper.

He was supposed to be in training for Francesco Damiani, who fights NOTHING like Bert Cooper. Cooper took the fight on a week's notice.

what noobish question, bert kooper had a iron chin and rocks in both hands. he put the pressure on and either you could take it or not. i never saw any of the champs do away with a prime bert kooper with ease. kooper dropped michael moore who beat holyfield for the undisputed championship to become the first ever south paw heavy weight champion.

all you need to do is watch the 1st 2 rounds, prime kooper was DOG !!

From what I understand Cooper had MAJOR drug problems, and sometimes he wouldn't prepare properly or would care more about having a chance to go out and get high than winning a fight.

You never knew what you were going to get with Cooper, sometimes he'd smash guys that were highly ranked, sometimes he'd get smashed. The easiest time I saw anyone have with him during his prime was Foreman, who crushed Cooper's ribs for 2 rounds before Cooper decided he didn't want any more.

Bowe also took him out in 2, although I haven't seen that fight. Might be time to look it up and see if it's any good.

Actually Holyfield won every round except for the round he was knocked down in.

This was a case of Holyfield not having much respect for Cooper as a Heavyweight and paying the price by getting stunned by a legitamate real puncher which was Bert Cooper.

Had Holyfield just used his skills and just boxed, he'd have boxed the pants off of Cooper.
However we all know Holyfield shows up to fight and entertain and so we got great drama in Holyfield's stoppage of "Smokin" Bert Cooper.

Interesting to note that people and boxing experts made up their minds real quick that Holyfield did'nt stand a chance against Mike Tyson, basing it on watching him against Bert Cooper.
The rationale being that Cooper was a poor man's Mike Tyson.

Cil Clancy who did the broadcast of Holyfield-Cooper differed in his analysis. Clancy stated "Holyfield will fight Tyson different, and who's to say that Tyson can take the shots Bert Cooper took from Holyfield!"

Just giving a shout out and mentioning the late Gil Clancy who was a hell of an analyst! :bbb:thumbsup

Because Cooper hit hard as winter on welfare.

In heavyweight boxing, **** happens. What did a complete novice like Firpo put Dempsey out of the ring? Cooper was way more skilled than Firpo and hit like a ton of bricks.

I'am sure Bert crashed onto the scene when he obliterated Willie De Witt the Canadian olympian in 2 rounds in what was a massive upset.:yep

De Witt & Shaun O' Sullivan were both signed up by Sugar Ray Leonard during one of his faux retirements. Yeh Bert was called a mini Joe Frazier, remember that De Witt hammering clear as rain on sat afternoon on ITV World of Sport with Dickie Davis:D

    1. Holyfield showed Cooper little respect. He fought a flat-footed style with none of his usual lateral movement. Cooper was just a 'crusierweight' and a 'journeyman' and Holyfield went out there to blast him out, in front of his home crowd.

    and ....

    2. Cooper had serious power.
