Who would win prime for prime?

  2. Tough one to call, Id go with Sonny by stoppage, I like Holy but he would have to box-box and move and fight the perfect fight to win, and even then it would be very close, any mis-haps and he's on the canvas,..

This is a tough one. I tend to rank Holy over Liston in all-time lists, but in his prime, Liston was an athletic stalker. Holyfield probably would have gone to war with him and taken big shots. Holyfield COULD win the fight, being the quicker and the better boxer, but knowing Holyfield, the fight would involve lots of trading, resulting in a probably mid-to-late round KO for Liston.

Holyfield was great, but List was strong and accurate with his punches. It would be a tough fight that would be a war, but I'd go with Holyfield because of his better workrate and his stamina and will to win.

    Liston.

Holy couldn't deal with his power.

And he probably wouldn't try to hard to avoid it.

If he went toe to toe, it would be very similar to Liston's bouts with Patterson.

First you would have to know when the prime for each fighter is.

    Unfortunately this is not possible.

I'd take Holyfield. He was a great boxer in his prime and had the speed to frustrate Liston

moreover, Holyfield could take a punch much better than Floyd Patterson. Also, I believe Liston had only gone to a 12 rounder distance once in his career. Holyfield was able to go to war with Qawi for a full 15. Does Holyfield's advantage of workrate determine his victory? Not exactly but I use this in an arguement towards choosing Holyfield over Liston. His ability to take a punch, give one back, and dig deep would be enough in my opinion to get a win over Liston.

Foreman was an old man, making an amazing return to the ring and Tyson was also several years past his best.

The thread is about Prime Liston v Prime Holyfield.
