You guys know me and the older Heavyweights, I would totally watch this, if nothing else just to see if Holyfield gives Rahman another baseball sized knot. http://www.democratandchronicle.com...5/1007/SPORTS/Holyfield-Rahman+fight+proposed
why? two senior citizens going at it? they both need to retire, rahman wont ever get back to his status post lewis 1 and holyfield is a walking geriatric joke at this point, and together they would make a borefest with the only visciously delivered blows being headbutts
I am sure you are right on all fronts, but if you know my rep around here for being nigh obsessed with old heavies you would see my side of things. I am still a huge fan of both guys and would watch this fight in a heartbeat.
Aside from the fact that I was obsessed with dinosaurs when I was a little kid? I don't really know what it is. I miss the action packed fights that the older heavies used to give us I guess. But there is something much more to it than that and I can't quite put my finger on it. I have some older fights with comebacking heavies like Larry Holmes and George Foreman, and no matter how much of a fan I am of their opponent, I always seem to find myself rooting for the "old timer." There is just something about an aging fighter seeking one last shot at glory that I find appealing.
Holyfield is going to end up like Meldrick Taylor. It is so sad because he truly is one of the all time greats and a class act in and out of the ring. He should have retired after the James Toney loss. In fact, he should have arguably retired after the Chris Byrd loss.
sounds like you've seen a little too many rocky films buddy, no offense, but these guys need to be as far from a ring as possible, especially holyfield. he's entirely too old and is too quickly declining mentally to be getitng in there again. have you heard him speak recently? its an utter shame that he can still be allowed to fight
maybe you are right about the Rocky thing (although in my defence, I didn't see any of the Rocky movies until after I had watched a comebacking Larry Holmes fight against a prime Evander Holyfield). And yes, sadly I must agree with you about Holyfield. I certainly think that he should have retired a while ago, and yes, his speech is getting rather slurred these days, but I still can't help being a fan of his.
I think holyfield wins at ease rahman is finished he looked horrible against klitchko all though klitchko has been the number one heavyweight for quite some time now but I think holyfield will defeat rahman .
A joke? He just beat Valuev. Oh so the HW division is a joke. Obviously :good I want Holy to retire too, but part of me wants him 1 or 2 (Tops 2) chances at going for the glory to try winning the title for a 5th time.
Same here my friend, I didn't mean that I wanted him to continue, I only meant that as a fan, if he is to continue to fight, I will continue to root for him. And this proposed fight is a farewell fight for both guys, so that means that after this fight (assuming it takes place), us Holyfield fans can rest assured that he will finally hang up the gloves (God willing).
Rahman is looking pretty bad as of late, but if there is truth to the article, Rahman was recovering from that elbow chips when he fought Wlad. But at any rate, even if this is the case, Rahman could have/should have done much more in that fight (although I don't see it changing the outcome). Rahman should have gone for broke in that fight and thrown everything he had at Wlad.
