It was originally billed, but Evander ended up fighting Czyz and not looking anywhere near his best, whilst Terrible Tim continued his last Hurrah with a impressive victory over Jorge Luis Gonzales. So if the fight had happened, who are you picking?
is it a joke? prime spoon was in 80s , holyfield 96 vs spoon 96, evander by murder. prime vs prime evander would destroy spoon. evander is 5 years younger than spoon.:deal
A GREAT MATCH THERE! Holy wasted Czyz and Spoon clobbered Gonzalez on the same card in New York...... My guess is Holy wins a hard fought 10 rounder over Spoon... Mercer and Lewis fought the best fight of the night / event..... I scored for Lewis over 10 close rds....... I thought Spoon and Mercer fought a draw later in Dec. 1996... Spoon got dicked there... MR.BILL
As stated Holyfield/Witherspoon was meant to go down on the MSG card, it was giving top billing in the February 96 press conference to announce the bill, I have a hunch, that Evander was not to keen to have such a test after coming off the brave but punishing loss in the third Bowe fight. And I sort of agree with you over Spoon/Mercer, but I had Tim edging it; it was very close. A good example of a close fight rather than a controversial one, maybe the draw would of been the fairest result.
I have a tape of Spoon's '97 KO over Levi Billups........ Spoon was a bit reckless and sloppy, but he stopped Billups in 1 rd.... Billups was known to be rugged, but limited in skills...... MR.BILL
I was at that fight in the Garden. It was nice to see Spoon making his comeback, but he wasnt good enough to beat Holyfield at this point. Evander made himself look bad against Czyz fighting a stupid fight.
