Looking at his record at heavyweight its actually not that great in terms of wins/losses!!! Sure he's accumilated a few losses when he should've been retired, but his Tyson wins were to an over the hill Tyson. Moorer wasnt that good really. Bowe was probs his greatest achievement and he lossed to Lewis though gave a good performance. Fat middleweight Tony STOPPED him. Discuss...
Both Holyfield and Tyson had seen better days when they fought, but the feeling among most fans going into the fight was that Holyfield was shot and Tyson would plow through him. He fought top-notch competition. He wasn't the most consistent guy and sometimes fought to the level of opposition, but he still beat a good number of top heavyweights of the 90s. I never argued against people who have him inside the top 10, or a bit outside of it. Nigel Collins ranking him 3rd was way too high though. I think sometimes he gets more praise because of the way people respected his overachievement, being a smaller guy, being entertaining, etc....and sometimes his inconsistency made the opponents look better, or get ranekd higher, in retrospect.
he wasn't the biggest cruiserweight but moved up and took on the BEST heavyweights around, ducking no-one. an O means f*ck all if you duck the toughest challenges, Evander took on the best, and if you do that, you're gonna pick up a few losses. the guy's a legend. if i was putting together the perfect fighter (tyson's uppercut, hearns' jab, etc) Evander's chin and heart would be near the very top. in fact, that's just given me an idea for a new thread...
I think he was on the juice, but it hasn't been proven. He's never tested positive. The Nevada State Athletic Commission said his health problems after the first Michael Moorer fight was consistent with steroid use, but they didn't test for HGH or whatever they said he might have been on. They just asked him and he said he didn't use any, and they left it at that.
The guy went from a good heavyweight (Legendary cruiser) to a superhero suddenly wonder how it happened? STEROIDS?
That's not really proof though, is it? There was that whole Evan Fields thing, with him supposedly buying stuff under that name to his home address (smart move Evander), but he hasn't tested positive. And how do we know that he used them all along. I don't care that much. I don't really like him.
A superhero? He went 1-3-1 against Bowe and Lewis, and the one win was razor thin and draw was a loss to anyone with functioning eyes.
Of course he's not going to test positive he was going to BALCO, the place that invested supplements that dont come up in test. They also called the number attached to Evan Fields which was a direct line to Holyfield, who answered.
