Evander Holyfield was in Atlanta during the Olympics when Floyd won a Bronze medal as a nineteen year old and Evander compared that fight to Mayweathers upcoming bout with Pacquiao and noted, The only fight that I saw Floyd lose was in the Olympics in Atlanta, it was the last fight that he lost and it was a left handed guy. And the only way he beat Floyd is Floyd is a spot fighter, he fights in spots so what he did was he made Floyd fight more than Floyd wanted to fight. I think with Pacquiao, hes going to put on a lot of pressure. If he puts a lot of pressure on Floyd, either Floyd is going to catch him or hes going to be hitting Floyd. Floyd is a disciplined fighter he could care less if the fight is boring as long as hes not getting hit. Ive never seen anybody make Floyd go off [his game-plan] because nobody ever hits him. Thats how good he is, you dont ever see anybody hit him. He kind of reminds me of Pernell Whitaker. Nobody could hit Pernell. The only time Pernell got hit is when he fought Trinidad and he lost because he wasnt quick enough to get out of the way, there was nothing he could do. The same thing with this because Pacquiao is going to throw a hundred punches. And you know how Floyd goes into the corner, and Pacquiao can hit him because hes got that much energy to do that and it seems like he likes doing that. He never runs out, hes just one of those guys that goes ratatatat. So if Floyd lets him build up and throw all those punches it could be a one sided fight [for Pacquiao].
Interesting to hear Holys take on it if anyone knows fighters styles, he does. I agree with him somewhat, but like he said its never been done since the olympics besides maybe a lazy unmotivated effort against Castillo. I dont think Pac will catch Mayweather unmotivated for their fight.
Good post, good analysis from Evander. I've been saying for awhile now that one of the major keys to beat Floyd is activity and swamping him with punches because Floyd, more often than not, will go into a pure defense mode or maybe throw one punch back when an opponent is flurrying hard and strongly. Jump on Floyd in the early rounds before he has a chance to make adjustments, win the first couple, and then push him more and more into a defensive shell and you have a good way to beat him on points.
One thing wrong with Holyfield's analysis PBF didn't lose that fight in the Olympics he was robbed.:deal
I thought he was going to pick Pacquiao because hes more religious to God. But good analysis by Holyfield.
but roy WAS robbed:blood anyway, for a guy whose supposed to be punch drunk as all get out, that was one hell of a great analysis. evander still knows his ****
Good breakdown on the fight. And since it came from one of the greats himself you gotta respect his opinion. Although I personally disagree with his outcome. He makes good points about both fighters' styles, but I just don't think Pac can actually trouble Floyd enough to earn a win. He'll make it competitive, sure, but the outcome will still be Floyd by UD.... because fact is, Pac had more problems with counterpunchers than Floyd has with southpaws and volume punchers. Floyd simply adjusts better to his opponents.
i agree. this is the only way i see pac beating floyd. what he's leaving out is pac is the only guy floyd has ever fought who's as fast (if not faster) than he is. that's going to play a large part in this fight as well.
