Picking someone they lost to as their best/toughest opponent is quite rare in these things.

yea, RM and DW are so similar in size/physique that without DNA or fingerprints it's tough to distinguish who is who...

In neither event is Holy's opinion anything to leave us scratching our heads.

    a) power's the last to go and b) weight divisions exist for a reason are both very cemented-in-stone boxing truisms. :nusenuse:

Holy found Qawi harder to hit than Bowe.

Anyone that has ever fought, even light sparring in the gym, knows that reaching down to hit a much shorter guy (provided he is the least bit educated in ring-craft, and especially if he is thick-necked and stocky with a responsible guard and respectable pop in his oft-unseen counters from below) is a nightmare.

..and Bowe was hardly ever floating like a butterfly in there.

Actually Wilder`s weight was nearer tan this against Ortiz when he weighed 214lbs, proving fighters like Ali who weighed 214lbs when he had his rematch and Mike Tyson who weighed between 215-220lbs in his prime wouldn`t be too light to compete in today`s game, maybe that`s what this guy meant.

I honestly wonder if you will see any poster here deny that prime Ali, or most versions of Ali for that matter, could at the very least squeeze by the Ortiz that Wilder fought. It must be one of the most uncontroversial statements you can make. Wilder beating Ortiz in a tough battle was hardly needed as proof.

Believing Ali would beat Ortiz will probably in most cases have nothing to do with Wilder doing it, since Ali and Wilder are so different fighters. It will simply have to do with the fact that the gulf in overall quality between Ali and Ortiz should be more than enough to off-set Ortiz size advantage.

Hokyfield also had a hole in his heart healed by Benny Hinn.

he still seems to have his mental faculties intact.. after all of those wars with much bigger men. all the nasty headbutts. he always knew what he was doing in the ring, even when he lost.. he was preserving himself while toiling in a rough line of work.

Yeah, if the question is toughest that doesn’t necessarily mean best ... fighter also considers where HE was at the time they fought.

And I was at Holy-Qawi I. Been to a lot of fights before and since, never seen anything like it.

It's not far fetched to believe it was his toughest fight. They both threw over 1000 punches and Holyfield had lost a lot of weight on an already trim frame. Bowe being bigger and harder punching than Qawi doesn't necessarily make him the tougher fight. A fight like Holyfield-Qawi I can be much tougher and more punishing than an ass kicking or a fight where harder punches are landed more sporadically.

The first fight against Qawi was filled with gut checking exchanges and simultaneously trying to stay one step ahead of a very intelligent fighter. Bowe was much more physical, but Qawi was able to push Evander physically and mentally.
