Everyone is very influenced by the crowd which included the refs, judges, and fighters. I think Kovalev was winning that fight, but the crowd noise when Ward landed impacts you psychologically. In fact, what you hear is retained more by your mind than any visual stimulus. Kovalev v Ward 1 was obvious for Kovalev. The second was closer but I still thought Kovalev was leading the fight up to the stoppage. The ref was very influenced by the crowd though. He stopped the fight because of their reaction and didn't account for the low blows as he should have. If both fights took place in NYC or somewhere more pro Kovalev you would have probably had a different result in both fights.
I had Kovalev up by 1 at the time of the stoppage. I think Kovalev was noticeably tiring and I would of been surprised if he would of won another round on my card. Ward would of gone on to a UD win. That's just my opinion of course, but now we will never know.
You'd have a better argument if the fight was in Oakland the city of Champions, Ward's hometown. This was in Las Vegas, the Mecca of boxing. I mean Kovalev's fought more times in Vegas than Ward has. He's fought in Vegas 4 times. This was only the 2nd time Ward has ever fought in Vegas. The only fighter Ward has ever fought in Las Vegas in his entire career was Sergey Kovalev lol. It's just bonkers for you to say that Ward has a homefield advantage in Vegas, a place he's never fought at before he fought Kovalev. I mean this just getting completely ridiculous the lengths the excuses being made for why Kovalev lost. I mean talk about a home field advantage, talk about perhaps a Floyd Mayweather who gets obvious favoritism in Vegas. Saying that Ward has a homefield advantage when he's not fought in Vegas throughout his entire career is just atrocious excuse making.
