Floyd fought great lastnight ! He should've finished him off But it's not his style to take unnecessary risk. Marquez didn't carry the weight well and it slowed him down. Mayweather was always great at beating 135 pounders and did it again lastnight. @ 147 he didnt fight the top opposition period. Margarito, Cotto, Williams, and he will never fight Mosley untill hes in his 40s. BUT is he the most talented fighter on the planet YES. That does not mean he will beat everyone mentioned above. I think Mosley and Wiliams wouldve been legendary fights with him. I take nothing away from him below 147 but @147 there was always people he leap frogged or ignored which would cement his legacy. A legacy that will be there long after the "money" is gone.

Floyd Jr Fights better going backwards than most fighters fight coming forward. Floyd at this stage in his career doesnt take many risks. Ricky Hatton despite being KO probably had the most sucess against Floyd and arguably won at least two rounds but Ricky again was clearly the smaller man Floyd fought a junior welter in Hatton and a junior welter at best in Marquez last night. Floyd best wins probably IMO Genaro Hernandez, Diego Corrales, Zab Judah and Ricky Hatton.

I think your opinion is accurate. Floyds the most talented fighter but lacks one thing.... balls. Until he shows he has guts then I cant completely appreciate him, but he is a great boxer and deserves credit for that.

What happened to the "sweet science"?

I don't buy it myself (though I am very fond of Mayweather), yet it is always brought up whenever MMA is alluded to.

    Contradictions to suit, my friends.

Have your cake or eat it. I don't care which you do.

it was a good win for mayweather not great, i wanted him to finnish jmm.and he was trying to but he waited to late.when pbf put his gloves up high and comes forward that means he is walking you down, which means he is about to try to stop you.mayweather walked jmm down in the 10th, he should have done that after the 6th rd.jmm on talent and ring smarts is what kept him in the ring for 12rds.mayweather should have wnet for the ko alot eariler.

I think most of the people who write on these boards are not boxing historians, boxers or have any boxing knowledge. This is funny, Floyd has been fighting top of the line opponents for years but we look at his last two (who were top ten fighters) and decide he has no balls?

    Arturo Gatti
    De La Hoya
    Zab Judah
    Corrales
    Jose Luis Castillo

All big punchers and bigger than Floyd. He had to move up to meet all of them. Why not mention them? Be accurate. State: "I wish Floyd would fight Mosley". Everything else about him ducking and cherry picking is not correct.

We have people criticizing him for taking on little Juan Manuel Marquez. People poke fun at him for fighting the likes of Carlos Baldomir and Aturo Gatti, two fighters who didn't belong anywhere near a fighter of Floyd's calibre. The list goes on. It's safe to say that Floyd has been subjected to an insane amount of negativity over the last few years of his career.

Let's not get confused. I think we all acknowledge just how good Floyd Mayweather Jr is. He himself knows the extent of his abilities, and he knows on a level playing field, he would probably beat all of the fighters in the world today. It's not a stretch to say he's the greatest fighter of his era. However, when you're that good and you know you're that good, the thing you should be striving to do is challenge yourself. Go up to 154lbs and fight the best Junior Middleweights if you have too. Anything.

Manny Pacquiao leads by example. He beat his nearest rival at Super Featherweight, so he kept moving up to find challenges. He was the huge underdog in the Oscar De La Hoya fight, and many people called it a farce. It shouldn't have been Marquez who needed to move up two divisions, because he is finding decent competition at Lightweight. It should be Floyd who moves up two divisions or at least fights the very best Welterweights in the world.

He says he loves the sport, and he cares about his legacy. Just strive to be the best you can be then, like Manny Pacquiao and Juan Manuel Marquez. Take the risks and people will love you for it. We don't hate the guy, we're just frustrated that a man as good as he is won't take the chances neccesary to really enhance his legacy and cement his place in History. All of the great fighters of the past have done it. It's Floyd's turn.

Clear out at Welterweight, or a least move away from your comfort zone to take on someone physically bigger than you. People will no doubt bring up Hatton or Castillo, how they were bigger than Mayweather, but I'm not talking about the past - I'm talking about now, today. He's said he's not retiring again, so go for it.

Ray Leonard challenged himself at Middleweight, Robinson challenged himself at Light Heavyweight, Roy Jones challenged himself at Heavyweight, Pernell Whitaker fought and dominated fellow greats Julio Cesar Chavez and Azumah Nelson. If Floyd wants to be mentioned in the breath as those guys, he needs to do something similar.

He gotta fight the top 2 WW's to dead the criticism. His talent is undeniable, but his ambition is what's questioned.

Good post and I agree absolutely. I like Floyd as a fighter, I've got no problem with his evasive style but he needs to prove to everybody he fears no man by beating the winner of Pac/Cotto and Mosley, going out in a blaze of glory nobody can argue with.
