Calzaghe could fight. Shame his hands became so brittle. I enjoyed watching him fight. What he did to Jeff Lacy was a complete and total masterclass. As one sided of a unification fight as I have ever seen.

 

OK, I'll bite... I'd say he exposed Lacy rather than ruined him. But Jones was finished long before they fought. He'd already been iced, twice, four years previously and hadn't beat a top fighter in years... One of the reasons, I'm sure, Joe wanted the fight in the first place.
And to your broader point, and I'm not really a Joe fan. But we have to stop romanticising this idea that fighters from the past, long retired, can return in their 40s and 50s and be relevant again. Small margins in boxing make a big difference - and the human body doesn't work like that. Best to stay retired and be content with what he did in a different era.

God dog, that was a beating he put on Lacy. It took Joe the 1st 30 seconds to figure Lacy out and the ass whooping began.

People forget this guy used to have a confidence (ie didn't have the heart) problem in the early 2000s.

He wanted to pull out of the Lacy fight and his dad Enzo had to talk some sense into him telling him it's his last chance. His relationship with Frank Warren was rocky too as a result of his behaviour

Calzaghe finally found his heart and confidence when he had the mummy Jeff Lacy standing in front him with cement feet and he looked like Ray Leonard.

Then he started to cement his legacy against Bika and Manfredo and finally topped it off by beating very faded Roy Jones and BHop (pre Mackie Shiltone PEDs diet version)
