It appears like he doesn't have the discipline to make 160 anymore, and the fighters at 168 seem like they're just too good. Is his career as a top fighter over?
Honestly..... probably. I think he can beat a couple of the guys in the super 6 (Abraham and Green), he could conceivably move to 175 and get some good wins there... Will those things actually happen? Who knows.. It is my opinion that he should get a new trainer and place to train though.
Sorry to say but yes i think he is im affraid. For me the only notable person he beats at SMW is Green, if you can call him notable. The rest of the super 6, as well as Bute, all beat him. Shame really, i didnt mind him
I think he should fight @ 168 instead of @ 175 like I'm hearing reports about. He can still make some noise and do well against the more stationary type fighters. Quicker guys who can box, move and use the ring (Ward, Dawson, Dirrell, Bute) will probably beat him.
He's done in the sense that he wont be ruiling a division anymore. He can be a player at 168, but the problem is he's one dimensional as hell, and at 168 he gives up the size and power edge that he had at 160. He's lucky that most the top guys are tied up in the tourney, but he has virtually no shot in hell at beating Bute. Lucian will knock him out after completely outboxing him. My guess is they match him with Andrade first. Or hell who knows... maybe a third fight with Taylor.
Pavlik is at that awkward moment; where, he's too good to be taken as an easy fight, but you get no credit for beating him. For this reason, it's going to be hard getting him fights with top other top guys. Pavlik needs to get a new team around him, win a few decent fights and show the public he has something new to offer. Short of that I don't see him getting many opportunities.
Yes, in every sense. Pavlik made up for his lack of skills, footwork and slow hand-speed, by cutting to 160 to be far bigger and stronger than anyone else. At 168-175 he's just another guy, and those other fighters are more skilled and powerful. He is done.
first he needs to get rid of that boxing coach he got at the local ymca if he wants anyone to take him seriously.
Did he announce his retirement? I could have sworn the announcement was about moving up, but hey, maybe I missed something. Why not just move to 168 where nearly all the top guys built their reputations on beating his left overs?
