He did get respect. He just went off the rails so very quickly and lost most of the respect he'd earned.

It was an ugly win, and everyone acknowledges that Wlad is
far over the hill. Had he completely pummeled Wlad, he
probably would've gotten more credit, even if he had rematched
him and won again, he'd probably get more. But he chose to
become a walking sideshow and lost any possible momentum

 

I feel that Fury got credit. Granted, Wlad is as old as Noah and his head may have been addled by all the domestic problems he was having. But, he's still in great shape and looked befuddled by Fury's herky-jerky moving style and enormous wingspan.

I personally thought Wlad would knock his block off and instead he fizzled badly.

Where Fury loses credit is for the cloud of suspicion over his head concerning drug use, and the fact that he ducked the rematch to eat every pie in Britain.

I think that he is a lot more talented than folks give him credit for, but his mental game is shot and he's probably going to be a one-hit wonder.

 

They were not lifted. Fury is still suspended as recently confirmed.. hughie most likely sat out his full suspension which is why he sat out over a year.

 

The UKAD suspensions were both lifted. You are talking about his BBBoC boxing licences, which is (Tyson) suspended and a completely separate issue. I am talking about the UKAD suspension for a sample that tested positive for Nandrolone. The suspensions were lifted by the NADP pending full clarification of the charge.

I think this is true, also, Fury doesn't have any other elite victories prior or since and Wlad looked to be slipping a bit in his fight before Fury.

Couple that all with Wlad's age and it throws a ****** wrench into exactly how good Furys victory over Wlad really was.

Also, as far as the fight itself was concerned the casual fans were feeling let down. Fury talked about knocking out Wlad and finishing him in spectacular fashion only to play it safe and land few punches a round. And Wlad himself looked horrible, making people question whether he got old over night.
