Honeyghan v Curry 2 - at Light Middle ???

Lloyd would probably have that psychological advantage over Donald, so it would probably be an 8th round TKO in his favor.

 

Honeyghan sucked at JM..... Curry was past it but still had some good wins and won a title... Was also beating Atg JM McCallum before getting caught.

 

anarci the thread starter stated both rise to light-middle in 87 .honeyghan sucked at light-middle in 91 after the starling and breland defeats but for this thread we are looking at the 87 version of honeyghan .i do though think that if honeyghan fought curry at light-middle wth the reckless style he made his welterweight tittle defences with he may of run into trouble but i dont think he would of fought curry the way he fought bumphus ,blocker and hatcher

 

After Curry moved up, he was still a very good fighter up until he was kayoed by McCallum. Honyghan didn't ruin Curry, McCallum did.

Curry would have beat the **** out of Lloyd.

 

Yes you are right, iwas just trying to get a reaction from the Honeyghan fans.

Actuallly i was impressed with Lloyd at one time, and really liked his exiting style... But he sure fell of qucik!!! .... In his prime he had his flaws, but he was an excitin big punching,quic fighter... I liked his Balls to the walls style...... But wow was he sure exposed big time against Starling.. I was a young fan at hte time and not as good as dissecting styles as now, but at the time i made Honeyghan a favorite... Even thouhg Starling was highly regarded at the time.... . Looking back though a guy lie Starling was all wron for Honeyghan... After that he was never the same:verysad


My first time in Hawaii .. They had the Pazienza- Honeyghan fight on Tv at one of the lush Beach bars.. For as awesome of time i was having , and a little sidetracked... I had my eye on this fight.. And i felt bad for Lloyd.... Pazienza really dominated him ... I was telling my girl (at he time) that Homeyghan would have kicked Pazs ass in his prime;... Lloyd fell of preety quicck too.

 

he was shot when he fought breland i was there that night and lloyd never had steady legs even on the way to the ring :-(. i am quite a big honeyghan fan but he was one of those fighters that many in england either liked or disliked many thought he was to cocky . the fight that was nearly made after lloyd beat bumphus was a fight against colin jones (he did not rate lloyd much at all)that would of been a cracking fight

 

Curry would win a good decision over Honeyghan, something like 9-3 to 8-4 in rounds.As long as Lloyd didn't headbutt him, Curry would outbox him.

Curry probably. Curry was definetly a better fighter than Lloyd, although Lloyd had underrated power and had some speed.

 

Not sure Donald had the kind of mentality to come back stronger against someone who had beaten the **** out of him and destroyed his reputation in the way Honeyghan had.

Plus there was the stylistic issue of Curry against awkward explosive fighters.

The Welter version of a few years earlier than when they did fight against Lloyd, i can easily see winning a hard fight.Yet having already lost? i'm not too sure.The Curry that fought santos and Montgomery and already looked to be losing his balance would be hit and roughed up just as much as the weight drained one was.

McCallum version seemed to have regained a lot of sharpness, i could see that one turning the trick but the lack of awareness for the KO shot was worrying.It's not like Mike threw a shot that was too fast for him to react to in there.

 

What if the fight goes in close quarters?

Honeyghan abandoned the style that brought him success pretty quickly.

Honeyghan-circa Vaca2 fight fought like a poor version of Armstrong.

And Curry was pretty good infighter.

Although I'm not sure if Curry was capable (both psychologically and physically) of winning the tough battle against rough Ragamaffin at this point of his carrer.

 

Good points.honeyghan was a lot better at mid-range than he was on the inside, i just don't know if Curry is the kind to come back strong against someone that has dished out such a pivotal one-sided loss.

 

I was under the impression that by the point Curry lost to Honeyghan that Curry was struggling to make the weight. If that was the case maybe Curry should off moved up before.
