yes why should he chase top 5 fighters? Well if you go to an org that doesn't have any top fighters I guess he won't have to fight any.

Fedor couldn't take down this oversized clown? Whaat?

Height is a disadvantage in grappling and take down defense.
Watch Fedor take down and throw Semmy Schilt at will, who a better fighter than acromegaly head.

Report: Emelianenko Announcement Coming Soon; Choi Not Confirmed

Official confirmation of today’s earlier news that famed heavyweight Fedor Emelianenko will be fighting in Japan on New Year’s Eve could come within the next day or two, but his reported opponent, Hong Man Choi, is not a definite.
The latest news on this big story comes from our friend Sam Caplan at fiveouncesofpain.com.
According to Caplan, several of his sources confirmed that Emelianenko has been booked for the event, and an official announcement will likely be made soon. According to today’s Savage Dog Radio report, M-1 Global (a former Russian-based fight promotion recently purchased by American investors) is not producing the show, and instead, the event is being promoted by former employees of PRIDE Fighting Championships.
Therefore, the announcement won’t come from M-1 Global itself.
Prior to signing with M-1 last month, Emelianenko spent five years with PRIDE. However, when Zuffa LLC (the UFC’s parent company) purchased the organization this past spring, Emelianenko’s contract was one of the heaping handful that couldn’t be transfered. And last month, all PRIDE employees were laid off. Many of them are now organizing the upcoming event.
Caplan also reports that Choi isn’t a done-deal as far as Emelianenko’s opponent goes.
When it was reported that the former K-1 kickboxer and one-fight MMA veteran would be Emelianenko’s opponent, the news didn’t exactly go over well with most fans.
Emelianenko, once considered the sport’s undisputed top pound-for-pound fighter, has been heavily criticized for facing just three fairly sub-par opponents over the past two years. However, Emelianenko does own an 26-1 record, his reign as PRIDE champion lasted from March 2003 to the organization’s eventual demise, and he’s beaten a who’s who of MMA talent, including Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira, Mirko “Cro” Filipovic, Ricardo Arona and others.
However, despite Choi being an unfathomable 7-foot-2 and 350 pounds, his MMA credentials are all but nonexistent.
According to Caplan, though, Choi is nothing more than a possible candidate at this point, and M-1 Global will have final say over any of his opponent.

that's good news, He thinks if he goes to Japan he can fight anybody and the fans will love him ,but I think people are getting tired of this act of not fighting top oppenents. I still think M1 will have a tough go of it if they think they can put anybody in front of Fedor and people will watch it. They paid him alot of money it will be tough to get it back if he won't fight anybody.

I like Fedor. I still have massive respect for him. But I dont think I will see him in any great fights ever again.

H2H I still rate him as likely the best in the world. But with his choice of opponents he cannot be ranked by any organisations as being the best, and he leaves legitimate arguments as to him no longer being relevant in the scene.

Fedor just doesn't seem to care anymore. He has proven whatever it is that he wants to prove to himself, and that seems to be all that matters. I doubt he is scared of challenges - the guy doesn't seem to have any emotion.

I'm sure the fight will make plenty of money, anyhow. Not sure how well he'll translate to MMA but the dude is huge and should be tough to take down and in K-1 he's only lost to Bonjasky (ATG), Le Banner (ATG) and Mighty Mo (avenged).

It's not like this is Giant Silva or anything, although Fedor should still win. A more experienced HMC would probably give people a hell of a time.

Yea, I agree. Hong man Choi has a PERFECT record, and he beat guys like Bobby Ologun(ATG possibly GOAT) and ummm... So, Nog and Barnett haven't really fought anyone of note plus their record is shite. Totally agree with you.

I think you guys are missing the point. Hong Man Choi is 7'2''. When Yao Ming starts MMA he will be the greatest fighter of all.

Err, I just saw Mo take him down in the first. All that is needed is timing. Choi attempts one leg kick and an opponent can go to tie him up and single leg him. Choi looks like you could accidentally take him down if you have the size and stumble into him.

His balance doesn't seem to be all that great.
