Honouring Bernard Hopkins

How many times has bbhop faced a taller fighter? Genuine question. I hope bhop wins but bad chad has all the physical attributes to trouble bhop including height and reach.

 

well if Hopkins was old when he fought Taylor then he's old now,so I stick to my point on this upcoming fight, also I disagree and stand by the post I outlined,

 

Taylor is hardly known for his stamina. All tension and shot after 5 rounds usually.

Its 2am in the morning, and finally finally. I have seen some footage of the final press conference and interviews from both fighters.

Its in these dying days that every interview is analysed, and the parapsychologist mind set and stability is evaluated by me. It might have no carry over affect inside the ring, but body langauage and attitude always affects people's picks.

These last 48 hours, i have been in favour of Bernard Hopkins 60-40. But now there has been somewhat of a U-turn, and its now at 50-50.

A part of me, is thinking that Bernard Hopkins is gearing himself up. For a last stand, mentally i think he has prepared for the worst. Its just something he said in the last press conference, that had abit of impact on me.

I think Chad Dawson is somewhat hypnotised, he keeps repeating that there is "No way Bernard Hopkins is beating him" he has repeated this almost, well close to 20 times over the past few weeks, 2 months or so"

I will by the end of tomorrows weigh in, go out on a limb and predict who I think will win.

I'm 50-50 at the moment, but Chad Dawson is showing signs of having Buster Douglas syndrome..........."For 1 night, 1 night only! all that ability which he has, the physical size, and technical skill"........just might all come to together.

Chad Dawson does not look scared, does not look confused. He looks like he has a massive chip on his shoulder, he feels underrated. He's probably been taken for a mug all of his life, because he looks like a shy nice individual..............

I Think if Hopkins comes out Swinging hard and 4-5 punch combos, Dawson will be done Early!

 

Hopkins-Dawson, as with the majority of Bernard's fights, is an intriguing one where I'd say that B-Hop is about a 70% favourite. That's because for all the physical advantages Dawson may hold, this fight is more than likely going to be decided on whose tactics are right and who manages to control the fight in the way they want. And obviously that is what Hopkins is a master at.

I think Hopkins great adaptability will come into play here because it's clear to me that he will have to fight in a different way to the 2 Pascal fights. The way he turned the first fight around that night with accurate body punching, constant pressure (though admittedly not throwing a massive amount of punches) and good inside work set the blueprint for what he had to do 2nd time around. And without the knockdowns he was able to do that a lot easier to pick up the W. However, vs. Dawson I feel he would have a lot more success setting traps and putting Chad in uncomfortable positions where's he's reluctant to let his hands go. Pascal did very similar vs Dawson and won that fight based on flurries of counter punching which exposed Chad's weakn lead-off shots, either the jab or staright left.

But Hopkins doesn't just need to depend on counter punching. Of course, he could do that all night & probably cruise to a pts win there's a risk in that as if Dawson used feints effectively, there's potential for B-Hop to be caught falling in slightly and then Dawson's own nice counters could cause problems. Instead, I feel he'd be better to use his great footwork to draw Dawson in and then use his hesitancy against him by throwing that beautiful straight lead he possesses (even more effective vs. a southpaw) and then go to work from there. If he can get Chad on the inside, more often than not he will have big success because although I don't think Dawson's necessarily too bad there, he's definitely uncomfortable with it whereas Hopkins is clearly a master at working up close. If he did this from early on, I can see him wearing down Dawson in the first 6 rounds and that will then give him the freedom to pretty much as he pleases for the rest of the fight. Unless Chad suddenly develops a much tougher mentality from somewhere.

Dawson basically can only win this fight from the outside IMO if he uses his speed and reach well and is able to capitalise on the inevitable slowing down of Bernard's head movement which I've in both fights vs Pascal. However to do this he will need to control range and I'm not sure he's smart enough to be able to do this vs. someone like Bernard.

In terms of the thread and 'Honouring Bernard Hopkins', I'd say that if I hadn't watched B-Hop's career so much, I don't think I'd be half the fan of boxing I am now and certainly wouldn't have bothered coming on here to discuss boxing. He really turned me into a big fan so by far he is my favourite fighter of all time.

My heart says Bernard Hopkins, but my head says Chad Dawson.

I will pick Chad Dawson to win.

Which is a totally uncharistic thing for me to do, most of the time.

Earlier on today, i was walking through liverpool city centre. And i stumbled into Ladbrokes betting shop. And i place a heavy bet on Degale, Bellew, Hopkins, and then Lewis Hamilton......

To all win in a accumulator, these are all heart over logic bets. And guess what..? I've lost already.

I think i'm wrong because i just love the fantasy, and my heart rules my logic. Logically thinking, i believe most people deep down. Fear that this could be a easy win for Chad Dawson, allot of people have gone very quiet including allot of Hopkins fans in the British forum.

I just believe that Chad Dawson, has always waited for this moment. Nobody has ever given him respect, people underrate his talent, his ability. And his career achievements, even in his bad performances! Well so called bad performances one thing stands out.

Bernard Hopkins always states that he looks at a fighters records before fights, and desides weather they have the creditbility. One fighter stands out on Chad Dawson's record, and that fighter is Antonio Tarvar.

No matter what people want to say here, Chad Dawson beat a by far better version of Antonio Tarver than Bernard Hopkins, "Twice". Antonio Tarver was in possibly the worst shape of his career vs Bernard Hopkins. Which was his own fault and thats part of the competition, the preperation for a fight. Antonio Tarver was visibly not as toned, and looked to be carrying excess body fat, and this probably affected his making weight, and due to the immense effort to make weight.

And yes Antonio Tarver was competitive against Chad Dawson. But he was beaten, and beaten good and Antonio Tarver knew this, and has admitted this years later.

The reason why i picked Antonia Tarver out......is because he is in the higher bracket of ring smarts, and skill level. After all thats the reason why he is also 42/43 years of age, and also a CW world Champion. People seem to think coming into Dawson vs Hopkins, that Bernard Hopkins is some how going to expose something within Chad Dawson.

That kind of talk is just talk, its a thing people have gotten used to saying........When they come to talk about Bernard Hopkins, its something you say..."When you don't really know whats going to happen"

Its like people are just kind of following a crowd, and a way of acting and speaking, like a FAD.

And people need to give me credit, for being one of very few people. Who question the majority, question the normal way of thinking. I bring balance, even when i know I'm wrong, because i know......"Its vital"

Like most people will say one thing, but don't really believe it. Only somebody like "THE UZI" or TEETO on this British forum, i believe are one of very few people who says things with bullet proof conviction.

Ok so i pick Chad Dawson, but remember. I walked into a betting shop today and betted on Bernard Hopkins, i will be happy sort of if Bernad Hopkins wins.

But i feel that it is the end..............

Something what stuck out to me was the weigh in, Hopkins was trying his best to intimidate Dawson.

Not the baddest of guys, but he almost patronised Hopkins attempts.

For a guy like Hopkins to lose that affect, to such a nice guy in Chad Dawson was kind of sad to watch.

In final: I feel that Hopkins is going out on his shield tonight, i feel it will be one of his best performances as a man, not boxer, not fighter, but man tonight. And deep down, i feel that Hopkins has prepared for this moment. This fight for me is showing shades of Chris Eubank vs Michael Watson II. In the sense that Chris Eubank knew afew rounds into that fight, that he could not out box Watson, out think him, or out slug him. At that point some fighters run, some fighters grab and hold, but some decide to go out.

Its is time guys! its his time!! In the past Hopkins may have held on, spoiled the fight, bitched and moaned, when he knew he was going to be beaten.
