yeappp...lets examine a prime example.. Geale(a great example of clean cut) is going great guns $ wise & mundine, sonny bill etc are really struggling to make some $,no1 even knows when there fighting aye
I havent seen SBW or Mundine endorsing any products in the mainstream press Secondly, what have either done thats illegal or off-putting lately?? I'd suggest that if Geale keeps going well & becomes more marketable he'd have a chance of getting mainstream sponsorship Boxing is behind the eight ball as it is as far as sports sponsorship is concerned, boxers just arent as marketable as swimmers, runners, footy players, so in order for them to get a market share they need to really be incredibly personable, a clean skin, & make an effort to become involved in things, i'd dsay Green has a bit of all these things, he's probably got the most personality out of boxers that have some profile I think that boxers struggle in general to get endorsements outside boxing related products if they do gain some sponsorship, gloves, sporting goods etc
illegal? I believe they both walked out of major contracts?,plus whats doing something illegal have to do with it,if your a douchbag your a douchbag plain and simple. Geale is a world champ fighting in a unified title fight(one of the biggest fights an aussie has been involved in) yet no one ****ing knows in this country,so if he aint got the sponsors backing now(which he dont coz the bloke charges $20 per day to his ameturs),when the **** is he getting them mate?? Billy Dib is another prime example,he has sponsors coming out of his ass,yet is farrr from clean cut, from his own antics and his associates antics. In the world of Boxing > Personality = $ Clean Cut = **** All
i think so...probli not to the degree he has ,but he would still have a large profile due to his peronality...also the whole following in daddy's foot steps etc Fenech,Harding,Tszyu,Rose,Mundine Sr etc all had the profiles...none came from a 'mainstream' sport..Mundines personality would have given him that profile regardless imo.
wat profile ? some profile....didnt get picked in a footy team so sulked and turned to boxing, ripped people off and now has nowhere to go(except with his mouth). hooper has a string of drunken incidents behind him,as i have said b4,no good havin talent if ur stuck in jail. doubt sponsors would like adds on tv from behind bars
i never said i was perfect you cockstain, but im not the one who is under media scrutiny , so i can make mistakes like this and get away with them per sè. Your attitude ****ing sucks man, im talking about down the line when he is looked at as a role model and example of clean living, especially for indigenous youth. It seems as though i struck a chord , maybe you know the guy , if so you should tell him to pull his head in and take this thing seriously , as the early warning signs are all there for damien at the moment
I the end their contractual obligations were resolved amicably with no prolonged court action, these kind of contract situations occur daily around the world in the sports world, thats just par for the course I dont think that many people see them as "douchebags" outside the boxing fraternity, they're infact both good role models as far as clean living is concerned, but in any case, i dont see either of them representing any major multi national mainstream companies, SBW might be doing something on the Rugby side of things given his profile in NZ, but i dont know I wouldnt have a clue about Geale, all i said that if he does the right thing, stay on the straight & narrow, improve his mainstream public persona, he may be a chance, but i also said that Boxers in general will struggle in Australia because there are a lot of sportsmen & women that are seen as much more marketable, thats just fact What sponsors does Dibb have besides products / companies that deal directly with boxing??..actually i have seen him & Todd Carney, Lauryn Eagle etc doing something for Londsdale?? But what has Dibb done to upset mainstream Australia?? You do realise that most big companies, if they engage a boxer to represent them they want the said boxer to engage with the whole community, not just a narrow section, they have to be universally recoginsed, not recognised by a niche boxing market unless they are selling Boxing Gloves etc
u just had a bet eachway answering the question. It's a yes or no and you managed a yes with a slight no atsch
Mundine walked out on a 600k contract got 8500 people to his fight with Gerard Zohs,PPV. Alan Jones,John Singleton etc. turned up when he was fighting Zohs, probably made his yearly salary in that fight alone. LOL@people who think he would have been that successful without his league profile.
its sad that lauren eagle is prob the most marketable boxer(bar mundine and green as they have there own teams of promoters and spend alot of their own money doing so) in oz..... boxing oz needs a massive over haul with ppv/ friday night fights etc , we need someone at the helm (like a david gallop style) to bring funding into boxing , its a big ask but it can be done to bring promotions every week on fox or free to air
No point Aussie Opnion, because these guys wont fight who they are told to fight, risk must equal the reward and there is no point in backing a guy who wants nothing more than a one sided fight. I agree it needs a complete overhaul but because of the lack of numbers here in AUS the overhaul would kill the sport TV wise, none of them would fight who they are told to fight. Unfortunate that the guys who do have the TV slots on PPV have Fox sports by the balls.
Totally agree Ty. A big shake up is needed and a few shady characters padding the records to protect thier own fighters need to be exposed.
If he's controversial, hated he may not get on ads or be the face of any company but he will get alot of people watching his fights and people will buying advertising on the canvas, ring corners etc.
thats generally boxing related, its a small market, i really doubt mainstream corporations or any company for that matter want to be associated with anyone who has ****ed up repeatedly, the only redeeming factor is time & good PR, the media & the public love a good "bad boy comes good" story etc
