Jones threw 11% less and landed 25% more... Talented Jones won on accuracy and handspeed, quick jumping in with a very unorthodox style. Hopkins very solid fundamentally. Jones ( 21-0, 20 KOs before) said that Hopkins is a very tough guy and he got hit with some good shots. He also said that he was not satisfied and that he would stay at 160 and then go 4 James Toney.

 

Nobody was ever succesful to beat the OLD MAN convingcingly . . . so far. :deal

He's gonna make you miss . . . move away . . . throw 2 punches . . . then hold or clinch. That's what he is good at. Throw about 10 to 15 punches per round and then cry he was robbed.

But hey . . . Pavlik??? I'm not discounting Pavlik landing one solid punch that can rock the old guy and put him down in the canvas. The posibility is always there. :yep

 

I actually thought that one was very close. Could've went either way.

Therefore you can very well say Taylor won very much based on that left jab!

I had Calzaghe winning clearly and i'm not even a fan of Joe. It was by no means a good performance from Calzaghe but Hopkins style makes people look bad. I hope Pavlik knocks his ass out so he will retire.

 

Bingo. HBO's influence and Hopkins' unpopularity with the boxing establishment caused those two bogus decisions!:yep

 

Maybe its good for a fighter to forget in his mind he ever loss. Staying positive. You know, if a fighter lets a loss linger in his mind too much, it might scar him. Maybe that is what Hopkins is doing, not only staying healthy physically like he does, but also staying healthy mentally. Now, when fans start denying losses....that's another thing.

 

At this point I just can't see Hopkins beating Pavlik. In his prime he does it no problem but he just is not active enough now and Kelly should be able to wear him down with the jab and striaght rights untill Hopkins is either stopped or the fight is stopped.

 

I have him 1 - 1 with Taylor, to me he won the first fight easily and got outworked in the rematch. JC could have gone either way but give it to JC for the stalling tactics Nard used.

 

yeah I think Bernard might get stopped by Pav at this point, and it's sad. In his prime he would have tore that ass up.

 

In other words, he might've lost both fights based on how boxing is scored on a round by round basis but if you look at this fight from an overall perspective from rounds 1-12, Hopkins clearly won. He controlled the pace, exhibited superior ring generalship, showed great defense, was incredibly accurate with his power shots, and just outboxed Taylor in both fights.

 

Hopkins clearly lost to RJJ, but he gave Roy a tough fight.
He also probably lost his first pro fight, against Clinton Mitchell (checked it on boxrec, never saw that fight).

 

I will say that he should be 1-1 against Taylor but as far as Joe and Jones both were losses ..The Calzaghe fight was a razor thin decision but still a loss.

 

JC beat him IMO, but I can see how you could score it for Hops.
I had him beating Taylor twice by close decision, but the judges didn't see it that way so he lost. That's just the way it is. Deal with it.
Jones beat him. Close, but clear decision. No controversy there at all.
