I can't believe there are still ******s out there trying to say the RJ-hopkins fight was "close" :rofl 116-112, and that's after some FAVORABLE judging towards hopkins in the late stages when RJ knew he had it in the bank and didn't want to do any more damage to his injured hand.

I wish you stop calling me names or suggesting that I should not be in the Forum for some intelectual reasons. Stats and comments in my post are taken from HBO's telecast which I have on DVD of course. Check out Clancy's description about Hopkins ( solid fundamentally) and Jones ( talented, quick jumping in but unorthodox) in round 5. Check Jones post fight interview too. Please rewatch the fight and consider Hopkins responding with right hands to Jones leading, explosive left hooks and sneaky rights. Jones was leading and some suggested that Hopkins was given four rounds late in the fight but there was no domination whatsoever. Jones at his best punched and moved out of the way...

of course is easy to take everything that was said RIGHT AFTER THE FIGHT, in which Roy had his toughest fight till that point, with an injured hand, and make it out to be close :roll:

so you are basing your criteria on the stat sheet, and on what Clancy has to say, as your sole basis? come now!

I've watched this fight, beginning to end, several times throughout the years, and Jones clearly won running away. The absolute CLOSEST most pundits, experts, boxers, and enthusiasts have had the fight is 116-112 Jones....

The way i remember the fight is that through the first 8 rounds, it was like 5-3 for RJJ or 4-4. So pretty competitive. But from 9-12, RJJ's superior hand speed and athleticism took over. Hopkins tried his best to make it a rough fight and those were the rounds he won but RJJ just started picking him apart late in the fight.

Man, I have to speak about something that was previously mentioned by guys that know more than me and in numbers. These Compubox numbers may give us some insight about what went up in there... Jones did not beat Hopkins up because he actually threw 11% less, but he did outpunch him landing 25% more with lightning handspeed, quick feet, power and "unorthodox" technique. I don't care if Jones is solid fundamentally or if Hopkins is, fact is that Jones was 21-0 ( 20 KOs) and he played a chess game with Bernard for more than 3 rounds and then it was all about flashy shots and move outa there, outa those ropes. Just wanted to add that I agree with the 116-112 scorecards and never said otherwise but Jones' right hand was hurt against Toney I believe... But I do not agree that Hopkins was given 4 rounds by charity. I also love to rewatch Hopkins and Jones in the same ring over and over again, Peace.

 

hopkins deserves a lot of credit because he is a very, very smart man in the ring.

neither taylor nor calzaghe would have beaten him in his prime, but jones would have, but don't cheapen your point of view by calling jones "scared".


you lost all credibility as soon as you did that.
