Clearly, to say Tarver was his only good win is ridiculous. But the thread-starter is correct that the Wright, DLH and Tito fights were dubious wins, as none of them had any business fighting at those weights. But, bottom line is- and like Calzaghe- if you go years and years defending a title, without ever slipping up, that deserves a lot of respect.
Any yet Hopkins is rated WAY above Calzaghe in many peoples mind here and he`s had several slip ups and been adverse to travelling to fight. I wonder way that is??
hopkins resume is just average yes, but to say he has only 1 "good" or "impressive" win is a joke. his performance against tito at that time was certainly better than "good" and was "impressive" - Tito at 5'11 had proved the fight before that he was not just an average MW. That's just 1 other example of a "good" or at least "impressive" win, let alone the others mentioned which although there are debates as to how good or impressive the wins are, there is still more than a couple of good wins. 1 good win......**** even calzaghe has more than 1 and almost any 'journeyman' worth his salt has more than 1
I don't know why you think your desperate quest to discredit Bernard Hopkins will ever change peoples' opinions on Joe Calzaghe's feeble resume. Forget the sensational win over p4p#2 Felix Trinidad, forget becoming the 1st man in 8 years to beat top 5 p4p Winky Wright, forget becoming the 1st and only man to stop former p4p#1 Oscar De La Hoya, forget becoming the 1st man to beat 32-0 Glen Johnson, forget dominant wins over solid challengers like Keith Holmes and Antwun Echols - and forget the win at age 40+ when he jumped 2 weight divisions and dominated the linear lhw champion as well, Bernard Hopkins is a nothing, a nobody, fair enough. Well done. You have convinced everyone
This is just nonsense. He won against three very good fighters : Tito, Wright, Tarver. He also has several good names in his resume such as Johnson and Echols.
Oh, please. Hopkins fought - and beat - the guys who were out there. He beat the other beltholders in his division in an era of divided titles. He beat two ATG fighters in Trinidad and De La Hoya when they were at or near the top of their games, and he moved up and beat the reigning LHW champ. Hopkins is an ATG and a Hall of Famer, and one of the top five fighters of the last 10-15 years. Easily.
Echols wasnt anything special, though they were both great fights, Johnson wasnt anybody when Hopkins fought him and nobody gave Hopkins credit for that win until Johnson knocked out Roy Jones years later. Tito was a over weight welter weight, Eastman lost to ****ing Joppy for god sakes, and Keith holmes is nothing to even mention.
& what was so impressive about beating Tarver compared to his other big wins :rofl. It wasn't any better, so I guess he has no big wins :thumbsup tired.
these threads arnt even really worth responding too....but since I have a few hours to waste till my cars done in the shop and I can go see my girl: gave Roy jones his toughest fight untill uhmmmm Tarver 1 probably(UD by 12) Joe Lipsey who was unbeaten and being pushed HARD by Showtime as a future star (KO4 Devistateing knockout made Joe retire) Glen Johnson: STILL the only fighter to beat him convinceingly (TKO11) Syd Vanderpool (always has been under-rated, UD 12 here was a good solid win) Keith Holmes (been mentioned already, under-rated middleweight titlist UD 12) Felix Trinidad: SCREW OFF with the smaller man crap, he showed unquestionably that he WAS a solid threat at 160 when he demolished one time titalist william joppy(TKO12) Howard Eastman ud12 Winky Wright :give me a break...he was ALWAYS a big 154 pounder this is a big win for b-hop UD12 and of course Tarver was a huge win to silence the critics to add to this he turned back descent but limited fighters like Allen,Joppy,Daniels,Echols,Council, and jackson and though De La Hoya wasnt great at 160 hes still a solid win Are you serioustly trying to say his resume isnt imprssive?....where do you come from?
ah yes: and if he beats Pavlik I serioustly hope everyone shuts the hell up.... If he pulls that off I dont wanna hear anything else ever again about any other middleweight champion... hes the best if he takes out Pavlik:deal
these type of threads seriously almost, ALMOST make me want to see hopkins beat pavlik.... just becaue johnson hadnt had any big wins at that point in his career... you guys act like its some other johnson... lol.. here is the point... hopkins is STILL the only fighter to dominate johnson... lol...
