Hopkins had the heart to accept the catch weight for big money against DLH, IMO GG Lacks the heart to do the same against Canelo? ?

Why doesn't Golovkin accept a catchweight against De la Hoya?

So do you want just the first 100 reasons, or...?

 He lacks the heart to fight retired De La Hoya. Okay, sure. We'll go with that. :rofl

Don't play dumb you know what I'm talking about. Hopkins accepted a catch weight for big money against DLH, why can't GG do the same against Canelo.

Oh. Maybe because the fact that Bernard did something doesn't make it automatically the right call? I missed where Hopkins became the paragon of behavior that every MW champ ought to emulate.

Canelo is a massive kid. If he fights GGG at 160, he will definitely outweigh him on fight night. Asking for a catchweight under such circumstances simply means you don't think you can handle GGG in a fair fight, or that you want to sabotage the possibility of a fight with an unacceptable demand.

Well it should have been Hopkins v Sturm seen as Sturm beat DLH.

That was a paper belt defence if ever the was one.

This often gets overlooked. We missed out seeing a fascinating technical match-up between two of the era's best (or rather, two of the best of separate but overlapping eras) because of that robbery.

Note that I said fascinating. Not exciting. :yep Hopkins vs. Sturm wouldn't have been a FOTY candidate, but it still is a shame we didn't get to see it.

And if we're holding Hopkins to the same standards as GGG then Hopkins should have been willing to travel to Germany and pay Felix 4 Million to make that fight happen. To some people this sounds absurd but it isn't especially considering Golovkin is a much bigger draw than Bernard ever was during his time as MW king.

Bottom line Hopkins ducked Sturm. I guess this thread has been productive.

It only seems unproductive because some of you are acting like you have your head up your ass. First off everyone is jumping the gun here. Canelo has not made the offer and GGG has not rejected anything but the OP's point becomes valid if and when the catchweight offer is made.

Hopkins received $10-$15 million for that fight. Offer GGG that much and he would probably do it. Then again he's within his rights to reject the catchweight for a MW title fight when he's the mandatory.

    This^^^

And besides, GGG and Canelo have not yet begun their negotiations regarding the catchweight. That happens after May 7 if Canelo wins. Until now it's just posturing and trying to put pressure on the other fighter and his team to accept worse conditions.
