Hopkin's will throw a lot of nicely timed punches that land and score on Kelly. But he won't throw them enough to definitevely take rounds, and after six rounds or so he will run out of energy and Pavlik will take the rounds because he will be the only one really fighting.

I never had a dream about boxing, but two nights ago I had a dream where Hopkins KO'ed ( or it was just a KD) Pavlik in first round with body shots.
In reality I expect Pavlik to win UD or late TKO.

Boxing history suggests that Hopkins should lose bigtime. Pavlik has a solid amateur foundation and over thirty pro fights to his credit. He has gotten up of the canvas to win. I cannot understate the importance of that enough in a situation of extreme duress.

At near-44 years of age, pressure and power, if applied in a consistent fashion, could cause the old war horse to suddenly unravel in shocking fashion. Am I wrong? Who would have figured a natural and post-prime natural junior lightweight would have pasted a 40 year-old Ray Leonard - a guy that went life and death with Hearns, Duran and Hagler.

**** happens once a fighter strays beyoind his time - and this time, a geriatric is facing a mother load of a middleweight that appears to be accelerating.

Hopkins best chance will be very early before Pavlik hits his stride. In his last fight, Pavlik ate several flush right hands from his opponent over the first two rounds whilst trying to find his range. The danger here is that arrogance and lack of prudent defense could be costly - just don't bet on it.

I'm thinking that Father Time wins this one empatically, but they'll raise Pavlik's hand in victory.

Hopkins has the skills to counter Pavlik's workrate (as he showed against Calzaghe), the counter-right to counter Pavlik's trademark right, and the counter-right to counter Pavlik's left jab. A lot will depend on Pavlik's chin: will he be able to plow forward, as Calzaghe did (only getting hurt once) which might allow him to outwork B-Hop or will he get neutralized?

Unless Pavlik can find something to deal with Hopkins (like an excellent lead left-hook or Calzaghe-style footwork) he's going to be in for a long hard night. I suspect that, given the extreme orthodoxy of Pavlik's style, Hopkins would be able to steal this fight with him via cunning and experience. There is, however, always the chance that Borenard grows old overnight.

Just to emphasise: I don't like Hopkins and I'm indifferent to Pavlik. This is a question of styles. Hopkins is best beaten by boxers who can outwork him; I doubt that Pavlik has the Roy Jones or Calzaghe level skills to get him into a position to outwork Mary.

At 6'2, I dont think the extra pounds will make a difference. If anything, it will help Pavlik.

Even if Hopkins does "win" he wont get the decision anyway. Pavlik is a future cash cow, they wont let him lose to someone who'll probably be gone from the sport within a year.
