Hopkins agrees terms, Pascal fight is ON!

I've been faking the front a little bit on Hopkins. I want to see him pull this off, but i'm afraid the only way he will is by having a gulp from that fountain of youth, but unfortunately he's been to that drinking well to many times...sorry to say it but the gas is empty and the well is dry.

Conventional wisdom, like most of you on this forum have on the sweet science, tells you all you need to know, Pascal beats the 46 year old to the punch and cleanly wins rounds on workrate and volume (even the low output against Dawson will be enough) this will be a rather clear decision as long as it's straight up. if Bernard gets away with elbows and head-butting ala Winky, then it could go to split decision.

Now, i'm not overrating Pascal. In fact some of you will know i've been insulting him, calling him names, discrediting him and i'm not a fan of his style, but Hopkins is cooked and just trying to collect his pension. He can no longer fight 12 rounds, trust me! Besides I've realised from watching Basketball that not everybody can dunk! Larry Bird was one of the greatest basketball players ever and he had a 2 inch vert LOL! So i have got to respect everyone's skill set.

Everyone is not blessed with slickness on defence or solid fundamentals and some of the sluggers, unorthodox guys and ugly fighters like ole Jean from Quebec/Montreal via Port De Prince, if they had defensive gifts, trust me they would use it! So i have to give him some leeway. lol

 

Never underestimate Hopkins, crafty fighter who can still do it when needed.

 

Jean Pascal is not a ******, when you say Bernard Hopkins is to crafty to get knocked out or beaten up..? what you mean is that, Hopkins knows how to hold and spoil, take the pace away from the other fighter.

But thats a very physical thing to do, and Jean Pascal is a beast at light heavyweight. Bernard Hopkins will try and fight the same type of fight he did against Ronald Winky Wright.

I just don't think that is enough, Hopkins does not hit hard enough, and for long enough to deter Jean Pascal. On the outside and from Range Jean Pascal is gonna look far greater, it's gonna be like a up to date US Air Force Figther Jet, vs a old school Fighter Jet from the 1980's

Chad Dawson is a good boxer, is very athletic and blessed with allot of tools. But he could not handle Jean Pascal's, fighter jet style of fighting at times.

No one here has told me how Hopkins will beat Jean Pascal, you have all just said words like Crafty, knowledge.................there just words.

There just all words...........no one can give me a definitive answer how Bernard Hopkins can beat Jean Pascal...??? come on..?????

 

The location of this fight is crucial. In Canada can see Pascal using the same gameplan as he did against Dawson just playing to the crowd. Its an intruiging fight but Hopkins lead right should land at will and Pascals wild swings will get punished by Hopkins who will pick his shots well because Pacal is easy to find. Two counterpunchers makes for a dull fight though and a cut from a headbut is a given. Pascal very wild and easy to find.

 

Yeh Pascal needs to not get wild in there like he did against Carl Froch. Bernard Hopkins is a good straight puncher, and when you keep going wild all the time. All it takes is, a short straight right hand lead...BOOM..! Short Jab...BOOM..! I remember Muhammad Ali stressing this before his second fight or maybe first fight with Joe Fraizer..!!

But i think Jean Pascal is a better boxer these days, and has better physical tools than Bernard Hopkins at 45 years of age. Jean Pascal was coming straight down the middle against Chad Dawson, like a Fighter Jet dropping cluster bombs.......fast in and out.

I just don't think Hopkins can sustain it, and if Hopkins wants to grab and hold and start hitting this guy on the hips.

Jean Pascal will be down for that, and ready.

BIG BIG credit to Hopkins if somehow he can win.

 

Never count out B-Hop.

There isn't a world class fighter in the modern era who has upset the odds as many times at the top level as he has.

 

B-Hop has a higher Ring IQ than Frochy and Dawson combined!

 

I think Pascal is there to be exposed but Hopkins is a bad matchup stylewise. Dawson beats them both I feel.

Lost to Calzaghe, Lost twice to Jermaine Taylor, lost to Roy Jones.

Hopkins has problems with athletic guys who can box, Jean Pascal is a big big problem.

 

Can you name anyone else in the last twenty years who has upset the odds three times against that calibre of fighter?

Taylor I and II, whatever way you sit on them were tight fights, and he was the underdog in the 2nd fight. The Winky Wright odds would have been pretty close as well. If DLH had have been more lively against Sturm I'm sure he would have been the favourite for their fight as well.

I take your point about athletic fighters though. High workrate guys give him problems at this stage. But a B-Hop win wouldn't surprise in the slightest, is all I'm saying.
