Where would it rank among the all-time over-40 boxing accomplishments if Hopkins won? There are only five fighters in history who have scored what could arguably be termed "great" wins after the age of 40: George Foreman (who won the heavyweight title from Michael Moorer), Archie Moore (who recovered from four knockdowns to defend the light heavyweight throne against Yvon Durelle), Larry Holmes (who upset a prime Ray Mercer), Bob Fitzsimmons (who captured the light heavy title from George Gardner) and Hopkins (who took the 175-pound championship from Antonio Tarver).
Hopkins is #1 for me. Beating Winky Wright/Antonio Tarver and arguably defeating taylor 2x and the Great Joe Calzaghe. His only competition really is George Foreman and fighting over 40 at heavyweight is A LOT different than lower weight classes IMO. George didn't have to be active; his power never really left him and the HW division and speed have nothing in common.
Again WTF ???? he LOST to Taylor and Calzaghe wether you like it of not and Foreman is his only competition ????????? Archie Moore is greatest old timer of all , go find a book Jesus
Those three fights are debatable in alot of peoples minds, and if you look at it this way a 40 year+ Hopkins went even with two men his jr that in the minds of most should have beat him clean. Winning or not winning really isnt the point, the fact that many in the Taylor fights and most in the Calzaghe fight felt that Hopkins did win, thus leading them to think that Hopkins would have in his prime made easy work of the two.
