Hopkins at 37/ GGG at 36

Golovkin schools Hopkins. Compare their fights back to back; it's obvious that GGG has a much higher ring IQ and more intangibles. Golovkin might be fighting Canelo 3 times ... Hopkins fought Allen 3 times Gee I wonder if Golovkin could beat Mercado?

 

I havent seen Golovkin legit lose or get outboxed yet. Whats the point of this thread? Golovkin is a technical swarmer, who can also outbox you from the backfoot and forward.

for a man who had "350 fights" against world class amateurs, he sure took his time getting in the ring with a world class pro like lemmy and jacobs (almost ten years before he bothered to!)

 

He was the WORLD amateur champion.

And the amateur boxing ranks in the late 90s and early 00s in Eastern Europe and Asia weren't guys boxing part-time to learn self defense.

Of course, Hopkins grew up in the streets of Philadelphia. Philadelphia is the most successful city in boxing for a reason. These people out here throwing jabs and proper punches when it comes to fighting, you gotta learn how to box and defend yourself if you're trying to survive. Especially in the 80's when boxing was at its height. Even today, Philly is probably one of the only cities in America where boxing is the main combat sport.

Just look at all the great fights they've had there the past 20 years. There was ... um. That one time, um?

I remember when Hopkins "went home" to Philly defend his title against Morrade Hakkar. They couldn't give tickets away. Finally, they added a Hasim Rahman-David Tua rematch to "save" the show and sell some tickets.

It was a financial disaster.

 

I was being sarcastic.....point being "mean" streets of Philly or some prison does not or is not better than Golovkins world level amateur record.

 

He was world amateur champion in 2003 when he was already 22 years old and didn't start joining international events until 02. By that time he already had hundreds of amateur fights.
