That's the: "My fighter is unbeatable between 1991 and 1992. He was prime THEN!" argument Up to the same point in their careers GGG * is * a greater fighter than Hopkins. He'd also beat him like a ***** h2h. If you want to argue that Golovkin won't be able to match Hopkins' achievements here on out, that's another argument and I'll grant that he is highly unlikely to. Hopkins had a style that aged better than GGG, and frankly I can't see 1 out of a thousand boxers managing it. Golovkin's all-action style does not age well.
Funny you memtion those fights. In my opinion, the Taylor fights were very similar to G's fights with Canelo. Could have gone either way. Especially if you give the benifite of the doubt to the champ. But, when it's all said and done, G and Hops were awsome champs.
Um, quite severely, I think. Check that. It's called a jab. Typically thrown with the left hand with speed and accuracy. Not sure if you're familiar with this punch. It's often used to reset an opponent, get the range for one's own punches and to control the distance of the fight. Check it out. Trinidad got put on his ass by 153lb feather fist David Reid. Golovkin would decapitate him
So are you claiming Hopkins was the same fighter in 94 like he was in 01? If you think that there's really not much to say, you're either an idiot or trolling. Again, I hate Hopkins, probably my least favorite boxer of all time. I'm not biased though, far from it. I'll give a fighter his props when deserved. Rest of your post is a strawman. Hopkins is a greater fighter than GGG, facts. He's a greater MW champion and rated higher all time at 160, facts. GGG lost to a 5'7 midget, facts.
Trinidad punches hard, but he can be broken down by a bigger fighter, stronger fighter. If he stands with GGG he wont go anywhere near the distance. You do know there's a good difference in fire power between Tito and Lemieux don't you?? GGG wouldn't box as much with Tito imo as his punch wont rattle him
Strawman Strawman Your third point is actually worth debating about. Trinidad does struggle with the jab, especially a world class jab like Winky Wrights, although we're using a prime Trinidad, not the part time boxer after his first retirement. Whether he decides to outjab Trinidad is up for debate. I think considering GGG's pride, he'll try to outslug the smaller Trinidad like he did vs Brook and gets his **** pushed in. The body shots causes GGG problems, and Trinidad was a world class body puncher, he'll hit you in the dick to slow you down if he has to. I can envision a UD win for GGG if he decides to box smart. I can also see a TKO win for Trinidad. Trinidad got knocked down plenty of times in his career. The way he planted his feet to throw his power punches caused him to be off balance most of the time. Yet he always got up to win. Strawman.
Part of being a "greater fighter" is having a "greater record". Getting losses on it and beaten up by bums does not a greater record make. Man, I love Hopkins so much he's really great ... but not better than Golovkin. AKA "OMG I'm being beaten up. Make it stop!" Whole career considered, yeah. Not a ****ing chance. Maybe by people who DKSAB. 1) Corrupt judging 2) Canelo would whip Hopkins real good at 160.
If GGG stands infront of Trinidad, he gets knocked out, plain and simple. How do you figure the 5 foot 8 and a half Lemmy has more punching power than Trinidad? Trinidad walked through and knocked out long reigning Middleweight champion William Joppy, who was the number 1 rated MW in the world. Trinidad knocks out everyone in Lemmy's resume including Rubio.
This is the part I take exception to. Since when has Golovkin EVER been bothered by body punching? Jacobs landed some of the best, most sizzling body shots I've seen in a while, right in the pit of the stomach, and Golovkin was still going strong at the end of the fight. Canelo hit him about 50 times in the body and Golovkin actually finished stronger than he started. where does this fallacy come from?
That's just pure fanboyism. Golovkin not only has never touched canvas, he's never even been rattled. Frankly I think his chin may be Hagler-tier. Lemiuex destroys whatever he hits clean. Ho-hum. Opinion^ Wrong at that.
Hopkins was a defensive counter puncher who would counter the **** out of GGG. GGG had a hard time landing clean on Canelo ffs, he would a much harder time of doing that to Hopkins. Not only that Hopkins' holds a huge advantage in speed and reach advantage in this fight he would kill GGG with his jab and straight right hand. Lastly Hopkins has a higher ring IQ than GGG who would be done if the fight went to the inside. Hopkins would bully and frustrate the hell outta him. Hopkins UD is the smart choice here, better more complete fighter
Golovkin isn't Hopkins, neither is it unusual for a boxer to decline significantly throughout his 30s, rather it is extremely uncommon for a boxer to remain competitive at the highest level well into their 40s as Hopkins did, so comparing them in this context is a tad foolish. However, were to compare them prime for prime and were we to put our personal bias and thinly veiled attempts at belittling boxer's achievmente aside, that could actually produce an interesting dialogue.
And PBF was 36 past his best the smaller man and fighting in his 5th weight class a weight he never looked great at and he won with ease. GGG a career MW and the bigger man who was supposed to KO Canelo drew and lost to him, showing you his true level good but not great. PBF's win over Canelo > GGG Draw and Loss to him, deal with it.
