I don't think Bernard had any desire to test himself against the best, until 2006, when he was in a position where he had nothing to lose and everything to gain.

He got his respect and recognition against Tito, and then still remained at MW for a further 4 years, before he lost to Taylor twice. He ducked a huge rematch with Roy in 2002, and then took over a year out of the ring before coming back to fight Morrade Hakkar.

I agree with your comments regarding Golovkin.

Yes, if you look into his career, he made incredible sacrifices both mentally and physically to slim down to MW.

    Hopkins 6'1, Golovkin 5'10

Hopkins naturally bigger build and starved himself to make 160

At 160...Hopkins walk around weight was close to his fighting weight.

He didn't kill himself to make 160.

There is a real difference between old school fighters like Bernard Hopkins and new school fighters like Golovkin and Thurman.

    1. Golovkin is a protected fighter while BHOP was an outsider with no protections

    2. BHOP has fought the best (Jones, ODLH, Trinidad, Taylor, Pavlik, Pascal, Dawson, Kovalev) while Golovkin has fought an endless stream of b-level nobodies.
Not only was BHOP willing to face the best, but he was also willing to compromise on weight to make the fight more competitive.

    3. BHOP is a living legend while Golovkin is a nobody

GGG is only interested in a WBC belt held by a 154 pounder. Hopkinks called out Oleg Maskaev for his WBC belt at Heavy weight.

When are you going to realize GGG is just a big bully boy bum beater.

GGG vs Kovalev would be one of the biggest fights of the last 30 and would make Gigi a mega star and atg legend if he won. But its not remotely possible due to the chronic cowardice ingrained within his mind set.

Many guys in history fought the equivalent of GGG vs Kovalev:

    Armstrong vs Barney Ross
    Robinson vs Maxim
    Charles vs Louis
    Duran vs Barkley
    Hoya vs Hopkins
    Jones vs Ruiz
    Byrd vs Klitschkos
    Manny vs Margarito

Now you know why this guy is destined to be a 1% B Sider

One of the secrets to BHOP longevity is he always maintained a very strict and disciplined diet. As he aged, of course his body put on weight, naturally. :yep

Only an ignorant SOB would think BHOP ever killed himself to make weight. I wish 40ish BHOP existed now because he would utterly humiliate the Triple Duck. Even 5-6 years ago version would.

Lol, the only thing you listed Hopkins did when by the time he was Golovkin's age was get out pointed by Jones.
